Cannabis as alternative for legal prescriptions drugs

so i was thinking today about about legal prescription drugs. more specifically oxycotin, profolol, vicadin, etc. the reason i was thinking about this is because they seem to have a high rate of abuse and addiction.

first heath ledger, then michael jackson, dj am, and now even tiger woods (Tiger Woods Overdose: Golfer Admitted to Hospital for Drugs) i really couldnt believe he crashed into both a fire hydrant and a tree while not being under the influence of something

i think when some (most?) think "legal", they think safer. these drugs have a high rate of abuse and can be deadly.

this to me makes a case to legalize cannabis. we know that there has never been an overdose of cannabis. simply put, its not a drug of excess in my opinion. im not saying people havent done stupid things under the influence of cannabis (and indeed i believe, even if legalized, it should still be illegalize to do things like drive while high), but it wont kill you. even the legal drug alcohol has killed many, many people.

medical marijuana is a step in the right direction, especially obama lifting federal regulation, but you still need a card. do you need a card to consume alcohol? i dont understand.

obviously, a barrier to many people consuming alcohol and/or prescription drugs instead of marijuana is simply because they are legal- but this doesnt make it a safe alternative. its more deadly in my opinion.

i know im not saying anything you all dont believe here, but in my opinion, these so called "safe" prescription drugs are following an unprecedented trend (for legal drugs), killing extremely talented a missed people, while there is an alternative, safe and natural drug, used for thousands of years, with many benefits and many less risks.

This is the type of argument for pot and legalization that i absolutely cannot stand. Talk about the merits of pot over other meds. Dude, i'm sorry i support complete legalization, but NO drug is safe. Not even pot. Yes you can't OD... but there are other negative things that can arise from over use. That's the way it is with anything. Which you seem to agree with. (for refrence profolol isn't readily prescribed to take home, it is quite dangerous, somehow MJ got a hold of it, but nah they don't send ppl home with that)

Prescription meds are safe when used properly. When you follow the prescription and the warnings on it. I am a former opiate addict... and i guarantee you that pot cannot replace at least one prescription i know of and that's Suboxone. Pot would have not completely gotten rid of my detoxification symptoms... if it weren't for suboxone, i'd still be doing 600 mg of morphine a day with dilaudid on top. Yes those are prescription meds, but i didn't get addicted by taking pills as prescribed. No one does. No one wants to admit they took more than they were supposed to, they want to blame the drug. Addiction is sad, and yes by legalizing pot, maybe some people would just use that. Doubtful that itd be a large amount, because we have a sample already. The people that currently use and abuse drugs. Pot is in a way a lot more legal than the others, yet people continue to use others. And pot is not a cure all. Pot wouldn't have taken away the panic attacks i had for years... pot wouldn't have saved my life on more than one occasion... yes it wouldn't have threatened my life... but that was my deal, not the meds fault.

Your "barrier" theory applies only to alcohol. Prescriptions are legal if you have a prescription, however, most do not, and those are much "more' illegal, ie they carry stiffer penalties than pot. So your theory doesn't work with prescription meds.

However, you do have a point on alcohol. Ppl think legal so it's safer. Actually, and this is a medical fact, out of Pot, Alcohol, and Cocaine, the safest one to drive on... is actually cocaine. Yet people believe like you say, that alcohol is safer to drive on, then pot, then cocaine as the worst to drive on. when the safer "high" or drunk driver scale is the reverse: cocaine, pot, then alcohol as the least safe.

Your argument would be much stronger if you focus on alcohol when making it. I support legalization. But i don't like how those of us in the counter culture turn on each other, n bash other intoxicants. True freedom will only be achieved when we are all free. I am currently 100% clean thanks to a prescription believe it or not... bc i took it as prescribed. It would've been more dangerous for me to try to detox myself with pot, because it doesn't work with the same receptors and i'd have a high chance of relapse.

Why am i here if i'm clean? Bc i believe in the cause... and while my deconstructions may seem harsh at times... the point is only to make the argument stronger.

I'm not saying pot doesn't have any medical qualities... i'm sure there are. But i don't see it replacing Vicodin or Xanax or Morphine. I see it replacing things such as Zoloft, Prozac... and alcohol to a degree like you pointed out. I support legalization but it's not going to end use of other intoxicants... else it already would have because it has less of a penalty than say cocaine or prescription drugs when found on someone who has no prescription. So lets not do what they want us to do... they fear freedom and they want us to divide into pot users, clean people, opiate addicts, coke heads, etc. No. Lets not let them divide us and then conquer us. Cannabis yes... cannibalism no! lol.
