Yeah it's ok for you to do that, just get a bowl of luke warm water and gently wash the roots before adding the plant to your system, make sure you have them clean of dirt, BUT! be careful do it gently or you'll snap the root, i know from experience... Doh!
Oh!! and dig away from the centre of the pot around the rim or edge and let the soil fall out onto a bit of paper or something. If you don't need the pot just cut it open so's not to break the root...ok bro, good luck to ya
There is also something you can put on the roots to help them transition as well. It may just be root stimulator but my hydro store guy told me when I did this that I should have come seen him as he had something that would have made the transition smoother. I went from soil to hydro and made it. I cant say it was easy though. You will probably set yourself back a week or so but you will catch up soon enough.
Hiya Toker, if you do try this keep us posted as to how it goes.
Sounds interesting as i have thought of this in the past but never read anything about it on here tho.
Best of luck..
I did it with a 1 week old plant and it went extremely well. Plant took off awesome. So I carefully dug up a runt 1 month plant and the ball was huge. So I changed the dirt and replanted it carefully.. lol chickened out
Yes, it will grow faster.
If you don't think you can remove 95% or more of the soil from the roots then don't even attempt it. You'll get fungal problems if you have any sort of soil medium being hydrated all the time.
Good luck...
