They could buy a hps conversion bulb at a very reasonable price, use "warm" cfls/flouros to suppliment, or just go with the MH.
For most strains, the light time is the main factor, light temp changes just help out a lot. It would definately be worth his time to make the light more red in some way though.
Mh is ok for the whole trip but buds will suffer and elongate
Buds need the orange red glow to reach peak
Best case scenario:
Veg cycle Mh Agro Sun Bulb min 4 wks
Flowering cycle HpS Hortilux and Mh preferably Agro Sun min 6 wks
allow 1 wk to flush at end to rid chemicals and crap
Harvest:hippy:
you can flower with MH bulbs in the 3000k-4000k (kelvin) range and veg with MH bulbs in the 5000k-6500k range....:)...I do.
shop around...bulb manufacturers are starting to offer a variety of MH bulbs in different kelvin temps...
I plan on using it for the first/last two weeks of flowering.
Ive been using a 400 watt GE MH with a temp of 3200, just for good measure, I added another 100 watts of soft white cfls. 4th week of flowering, and things look dandy.
