Insurance Question.....

Morning all.

I've been suffering with Celiac Disease for a few years and have found that mj is one of the few things that allows me to actually have an appetite. I've been considering getting my mmj card, but I have a concern. I am a small business owner that pays through the nose for my medical insurance for myself and my family. I am concerned that getting my mmj card will be reported to my insurance company and they will deny me coverage. In that case, I would be screwed. Does the State report this?

Any insight would be most appreciated.

I don't think your insurance company will know unless someone tells them. :thumbsup:

I had the exact same concerns. You can see my post on here from about a month ago or so "Privacy for cardholders" or something like that and another one about "Insurance companies and MMJ" or something similar. I think your information will be private, but I'm not positive. I haven't been thoroughly convinced, but I decided to get the card anyway.
As far as I know the registry can't really share that information, so unless you specifically tell your primary doc or insurance company I don't think they would know.
I have seen a post where a guy was on workers comp and he was told that the workers comp people would find out through the state. So I don't know. Sorry I couldn't help you more definitively.

Here is a link to the State site. Being on the registry is supposed to be confidential. As far as workers' compensation goes, that has nothing to do with your own insurance company. This does bring up the question about the use of recommended MM in the workplace. Many companies have drug and alcohol policies that would prevent such use, especially if you have a CDL license, which is a federal situation.

Anyway, does your insurance policy say that if you are a registered MM patient that you are exempt from coverage? I would be surprised if it did.

Hey there, I also have Celiac's! Hope your health is progressing. I also require marijuana to help my appetite.

I'm quite certain that your health insurance company won't be informed unless you inform them. The registry is incredibly flooded with handling the massive influx of recommendations everyday that I doubt they would even have time for any other monkey business. I'm pretty sure you're safe. Green Docs is pretty good. They aren't associated with a dispensary for what that's worth.
The can be a little pricey, but if you're willing to sign over your caregiver to a collective then you'll only pay like $50 (plus $90 to the state).

My best advice is to go through a respectable dispensary. Maybe check out the reviews thread here and find out which dispensary you'd feel comfortable going to. Then I would talk to them and see if they have a doctor who comes in routinely. If its more than $100 to get a recommendation, try elsewhere. Good luck!
