Too late to bury up to the cotyledons?
Hi cancom! It's been a while since I've posted. I have gotten on with things quietly on my own until now and I could use a little help.
I got busy/lazy and my plants have stretched a little and when I re-potted them I didn't put in quite enough soil. I wanted to simply place more soil on top, perhaps nearer to the cotyledons. However, the stems are hardening and they are green, green = chlorophyll and I don't want to rot the stem. I'd prefer not to have all this "wasted space" of stem below but I don't want to mess them up somehow.
It is day 24 from seed; day 20 of lights being on.

No, I would not hesitate to put moil soil in the container.

It won't affect the stem at all if you don't go past the cotyledons. I usually let my seedlings grow about that big before the first transplant, and almost always end up topping off with more soil to support the stem and keep the plants short.
No sweat, it's not too late.

It would be so much easier if everyone agreed. :upsidedow I might add a little bit of soil to the top and hope for the best. Thank you for the replies.

Hi Jane
I add soil all the time; to prop up seedlings. Never a problem.....but, if their getting close to rootbound?...just transplant to bigger pot...they look like they might be close to rootbound?
EDIT: actually those pots look like one gallon pots...:stoned:...just add soil

Hi Jane, I have added soil up past those leafs and so far have not had a issue. If anything my issue always seems like I don't add enough soil.

Hi there, Dutch Pimp!
Soil has been added, albeit modestly. So far so good. I topped one of them yesterday too - the one in the front right:

It really doesnt matter, If at any point u decide to burry the stem it will just grow roots up until it hits light. So its really never to late.
