Help! Am I stuck with a lousy caregiver/dispensary?

Greetings,

I recently got registered in Colorado as a MMJ patient. When I went to the Dr, they gave me a discount on the visit for signing up their dispensary as my caregiver. I didn't know any better, and should have denied it, but anyway. After getting my paperwork, I went next door to their dispensary. What a joke. Pimple faced kids too stoned to complete a sentence without stuttering the word dude. Absolutely zero product knowledge, and couldn't pay attention long enough to even ask if they could help me.

So, what I'm asking is this. Since I got a discount on my Dr. visit, by signing them up as my caregiver, am I bound by anything that says I can't just change my caregiver to another dispensary that offers better service, products, and a knowledgeable staff?

Do these clinics just prey on people that don't know any better? Taking advantage of the patients that don't realize they can change caregivers at any time?

On that note, I read a post here just this morning about a dispensary accepting a patient that signed over their caregiver to receive 'membership deals.' Turns out, the patient didn't actually follow through with the re-assignment? I'm sure there are a lot of people taking advantage of that, I would just like to find a quality dispensary, with good product and staff, and I wouldn't have any problem making them my caregiver.



So, I've tried to read 'the law' and determine what they process is for making the change in caregivers. It only says a form must be filled out, and you have to inform your previous caregiver.

So, is a call to my current dispensary/caregiver enough? I doubt the kids that run it stoned off their asses are going to bother with documenting the fact that I dropped them as my caregiver. Does this place me in any kind of bind as far as the law goes?

If I were you brother I would write a short letter saying that you would not like for this person to be your caregiver any longer (no reason is needed). I then would mail this letter via certified mail with a signature required. Then just keep a copy of the letter and the receipt for the certified mail. This will be enough to show anyone if any questions were ever to come up.

1. Just because you got a discount doesn't mean that you have to stay with this caregiver if you don't feel that they are providing adequate "care".

This looks like a great blog.

It seems like sending the change of caregiver form to the registry and changing to 'None' is the best option I guess.

Though, the comments at the end have to make me wonder. It seems that a number of people have 'talked to lawyers' or are in the business themselves, and all have different interpretations.

I guess we'll all have to just wait and see how it all unfolds in the coming months and see what happens.

I highly doubt they could peruse any action against you legally for switching caregivers, especially since it sounds like they aren't providing you the care you need. That kind of caregiver selection is highly suspicious in my opinion anyway. You must be free to choose a caregiver who can actually provide you care, right?
