Losing MY religion

Greetings all.

I wish to share a bit of my background and my recent discovery of lies deceptions and cultural circular reasoning for justifications of moral stances.

My family has been involved in very physically demanding occupations for generations. Along with that, often many family members tend to run strong to the religious. Being in the U.S. of A. a strong sense of patriotism goes hand in hand with that life style. In my experience, government is OF God (so says the pastor/preacher/teacher). Institutions that the government approves are OF GOD. If you are sick, go to the doctor. He or she will prescribe a medicine or treatment that best suits you. Since the medical field is approved by our government surely the treatment is also approved by God. The efficacy of any such treatment depending on the talent of what doctor or clinic you visit yadda yadda...

My views of cannabis use were dim. Always it was portrayed as "Of the Devil!" there could be no good purpose to it. Countless church services would address the evils of its use. It was demonized more than liquor due to the fact that many alcoholics had converted to religion. My parents had no experience with its use and found the appearance of those that were known pot users different enough from the "norm' to satisfy them it was to be avoided. All my life, certain aspects of this belief may have been at odds with what results I have encountered, but I easily dismissed that to ignorance on my part. Mostly those whom we did know to use it were very likable.

In my mid twenties I had a spinal injury that heavily impacted my life. After physical therapy, then an operation and more therapy I have been taking a legal prescription pain killer that is quite wonderful at destroying my bodies filters. Until recently I would not have given it too much thought, however...

My wife at, a young age, was being driven back home with her mother. On their trip back home they had a vehicle come far enough over from its side of the road to front end my future wife an mother-in-law. The driver was seriously injured and his buddy killed. My wife very nearly killed. She spent several years in hospitals just after the wreck, and still requires surgeries quite often to remedy such things as sight, spinal fluid build-up, jaw - etc. All things considered she recovered from the ordeal remarkably well, although it is a FAR cry from what quality of life she had before.

After we were married a few years, her constant low level headaches increased to the unbearable. We went to the most highly recommended neurologist we could find. He would prescribe medications for her that consistently were making her problems worse. After one and a half years of prescribing VERY expensive medication his brilliant solution was "Well.... you seem to not be doing to well with these medications. Lets see how well you do if we cut out medications entirely" a bright fellow no? As it happened she did need surgery to replace a valve to release excess spinal fluid, however the chronic headache persisted.

Some time later during countless trips to differing doctors treating various problems due to my wifeâ??s wreck, my father was diagnosed with Leukemia. Some years earlier he was diagnosed with Lymphoma and had chemotherapy to fight it off. Fifteen years later Leukemia finished what Lymphoma started. With a very critical and stressful operation my wife just received, I was also trying to help my mother with my father. That was a year straight from hell!

At the time Montana did not have medical marijuana laws. Not knowing much about Marijuana, but knowing about the penalties and considering my upbringing in general, I let my shameful cowardice keep me from obtaining some for my father. At that time he would ask to be overdosed with the morphine he was prescribed, to end it. Perhaps he would improve a bit the next day, but was unwilling to eat at all. The depth of his pain and misery need not have been as much as it was. When the law came to legalize medical marijuana, I fully supported it.

A few years after my fathers death, my wife still with her headaches sought relief. I did not give much thought to marijuana as much more that a nausea remedy, but through reading found that some made claims that it did so. This very much interested me as I am very much in love and want my bride to have comfort. Through some self education I learned (shock of shocks!) that you could not overdose on this material, not to mention pain relief and so on. When you start uncovering lies and deception maybe some can be miffed a bit, not me though. Fury might be too tender a word for what I felt/feel at the whole damned scam that involves the illegality of this plant.

In this last year our dentist suggested treating her headache with cannabis. With that in mind she asked a neurologist. His recommendation as to cannabis his response "Oh no. It causes headaches..." after this visit we went to the pharmacy with his script. The medication was at $30 a pill, take four daily. Side affects (I kid you not) headaches....... A straw that broke this conservatively raised and brainwashed camels back.

I and my wife became legal to use (my god its just a plant!) Cannabis, and legally obtained a small amount. My wife, with great trepidation, tried what for the first time with out a surgery, reduced her headache! As I too have my aches and pains I as well have seen a good result. Much less Hydrocodone is needed.

Now I am in the process of raising what ought to be as available as cough syrup at the grocery or convenience store. I get to look back in regret to all the needless suffering that surrounds the legality of this plant. Perhaps religious and government institutions need it to remain sinister appearing, they have invested so much mischief and deceit and stand to lose a great deal of undeserved credibility.

Screw the red or blue pill, the foliage has much more going for it.

I have never been in your situation, but it is definitely an interesting read. I can definitely see what you mean on how it is portrayed as "Of the Devil!". I have always supported Marijuana, since it is not addictive and does not cause permanent damage, unlike alcohol.

To meet you on a certain level, I once got my Christian friend to smoke. He had always believed that Marijuana was illegal for a reason, even though he would drink and then whimper about how he felt the next day. So we smoked...and then started playing video games. We played Super Smash Brothers Brawl, a game I'm not too fond of, but it is colorful and enjoyable when high. We laughed a lot, and had a genuinely fun time.

The next morning he said it was great, and that we should definitely do that again. I thought that would be great.

A few days later, I mentioned to him the idea of smoking. His reply was..."I would never do that again...I had such an unpleasant time..." He apparently went to church and discussed this with a few of his fellow churchgoers. They told him it was bad, and his mind re-associated the feeling of a good night, with pain and exhaustion.

You can really see how this world's religions have such an effect on a person, to the point where it is almost brainwashing. It's sad to know he'll probably never do it again, just because some false sense of god tells him to be a "good person", and to stop doing this "illegal" substance, even though he drinks and smokes cigarettes regularly.

A heart wrenching story.

The thought occurred to me, how many others, like your family has, still suffer needlessly? :mad:
