Not overkill but probably more than they really need.
Considering the sun in many many times brighter nothing indoors is overkill light wise, the more light the better as long as your temps are in check and all other needs are met like CO2, water, nutes, root space, etc. Usually indoors lack of CO2 is the limiting growth factor. (other than low light) Growth rates can easily double with CO2, yields go way up as well.
15 plants get big very fast under 1000 watts of anything, hope you have the space! Let's see pics!
no it is not overkill but it is a lot of light, you would like to keep close monitor of it like they say cause if would grow very fast, is it a hortilux blue or hortilux metal halide?
i have also found out that in veg stage when the humidity is higher like at 60-70 they tend to grow way faster then at 50-60 humidity so try that out also oscillating fan is a must in the veg room

600-watt lamp 24 inches
1000-watt lamp 30 inches
Im working on the pictures i switched from the 1000 watt to a 400 MH just to keep it cooler and all of that. I actually have a FULL clear unfinished basement that i was thinking about moving them to cause the heat in this closet is bad. But i got a question for that as well?
It gets cold down there when theres no source of Heat such as the grow light. When it kicks off it would get cold. Should i have a space heater for the OFF cycle to keep them warm or what? i think i am going to move them down there today. Please let me know
Ha, I run a 1KW bulb for one single plant. You will be fine, just make sure its not too close. I have heard that you can get light bleaching if you go over 75W per square foot but I've never had any trouble and I am currently at about 83W per sq ft. My bulb is 2 feet from the canopy.
how cold of a climate can a plant live in and be ok
