Cannabis actually slows down GERD!
Endocannabinoids and the gastrointestinal tract: what are the key questions?
Wiley InterScience :: Session Cookies
"Cannabinoid (CB1) receptor activation acts neuronally, reducing GI motility, diarrhoea, pain, transient lower oesophageal sphincter relaxations (TLESRs) and emesis, and promoting eating."
(CB1 receptors are activated by THC.)
www.medscape.com/medline/abstract/9203932
"Transient lower oesophageal sphincter relaxations (TLOSRs) has been found to be the main mechanism of gastro-oesophageal reflux."
They used the English spelling of "esophageal" but that's still GERD (gastro-esophageal reflux disease)! So yes, cannabis helps prevent GERD. There are other studies about this in the "Crohn's/IBS/Bowel disorders" section in my list (linked below).

GERD
If I don't get replies to this I'll make a new thread.
I have a sleep disorder and pot puts me to sleep every time without a hangover and I've finally been able to put on some weight. It would be a huge loss to me now if I had to stop smoking.
But I've got the same problem now. If I smoke I get lightheaded, feel pain in my chest/left arm, a very peculiar feeling in my throat/jaw and the rest, and in the days following smoking I'll get lesser episodes of it throughout the day. At first I thought it was panic attacks but was diagnosed with acid reflux a little later.
I didn't want to tell my doc that I could just eliminate the cause so I tried taking Prilosec. I quit smoking for two weeks while I did that, then tried started back slowly but the same thing happened. I tried taking it orally instead but the same thing happened only much more intense than ever before. I don't think the problem is my method or the smoke itself for this reason. Nothing other than cannabis causes this problem for me as far as I know.
If you know anything about cannabis causing or aggravating acid reflux/gerd I could really use anything. I've tried searching online but all I find are a few stray threads like this started by people looking for help and never really resolved. I can give it up for good if I really have to but the problems it solved for me will still be there.
