Sunshine mix #4 is the only soil you can use with nutes without warrying about overdose.

Promix is also inert(no nutrient value of its own). Its also very cheap and high quality. You can get a compressed cube of it from the higher end gardening stores for like 20 bucks and it is the equivalent of like 4 bags of uncompressed soil. I like it because It gives me complete control over the nutrient levels at all times... the only nutreints they get are the ones i feed them. But promix does have the mycorezea (spelling?) that help break down the nutrients to a form the plant can use. I have a buddy who always grows the same strain in the same conditions who did an experiment using different soil mixed with 10% perlite. He has used foxfarm, happy frog, MG moisture control, Promix. It wasn't a perfect experiment because promix was the only one without fertilizer. And he saids the MG works well but swears by the Promix. 25 dollars spent on soil per 1000w, comes in one giant cube, and holds water (imo) just as well as the moisture control. He'd just give them 1 liter per 5gal every two days and the soil stayed perfect. And alot of people don't like growing with peat moss beacuase they say its acidic and will cause problems but promix is pH adjusted and assuming your using a decent nutrient line (GH flora series 3part) and your water is clean you'll never have a problem.

So, when you use a nutrient-rich soil like Fox Farm do you have to use nutrients/fertilizers at all during the grow??
I'll probably be using Fox Farm soil with like 20% perlite and veg'ing clones for like 1-2 months. Will I have to start feeding them at some point? Will I feed full-strength or like 1/4 or 1/2 strength?

Check out skunkmagazine. REv's TLO organic style of growing provides simply the best tasting, smelling and stony weeds around. It is pretty turn key AFTER you dial it in. Kind of costly to start up, but well worth the $ IMO. Yields compare with water with many strains. Peace BDrx

i make my own soil, i have used fox farm happy frog and ocean forest in the past but i like my mix, the fox farm stuff gets hard after a while.
my mix includes
red lava rock. 2-10 lb bags- 1 part
organic peat moss.- 40 lb bale- 4 parts
organic composted cow manure- 2 10lb bags-2 parts
organic worm castings-1 10 lbs bag- 2 parts
organic top soil- 4 10lbs bags-4 parts
perlite- as needed
vermiculite- as needed
all this costs me about $100, and will get me through 2-3 life cycles running between 15 and 30 plants. the fox farm stuff costs $20 a bag and a bag will fill 4-5 of my pots. also a top dressing of red lava rock will help keep the soil moist longer and aids in watering to help distribute the water to different parts of the surface of the soil (water runs down between the soil and the pot if you have soil compaction/ under watered soil)
