Question about covering

So if anyone has seen my grow log, you would know how horrible the weather has been to me. Basically I have these 2 or 3 mm cotton bags I put on my plants, they should keep the frost off, but since my plants are so big I can't fit the bag over it without the bag resting on the tops of my plants, which has basically flattened them. Is this a cause for concern? I Don't have a choice about covering them, as it might even snow this coming weekend, and I can't always take them off every day, or want to because of the gale force winds we have been having... Anyways just looking for some advice, I'll get a pic up tomorrow.

l live in the mountains and have to deal with early frost- I take river bamboo and make a teepee of sorts - a frame to drape my cover over- last year I had freeze so early I actually took bamboo and built a frame over plants and made a temporary greenhouse- i draped painters drop cloth plastic over the frame- i would take frame down each AM after threat of freeze, i even put a heater in the greenhouse one night - it was a pain in the ass but I extended my grow time by 3 weeks-this year I tried to get strains that finish earlier- my problem this year has been non stop rain for weeks upon weeks- best of luck to you

Sorry to hear about all the crummy weather you have been having... What part of the country are you growing in? I am in oregon and the weather is supposed to start getting nasty this week and I am debating whether or not to pull them this week... Good luck to you

So heres the pics from today. Like I said the bags has flattened the tops and most of the buds on the sides... I imagine this is not good. Anyways if someone has any insight, it'd be great. I also don't really have anything else to make a "tent" over the plants, and no money to buy anything...

Hey zcarlson I am in alberta canada, just northeast of ya! The weather here has been extremely unpredictable. Next year I would love to get some early strains or maybe even autoflowering, or ideally, a greenhouse, but more likley the seeds.

try using some poles or long sticks- if the plastic, better to use cloth, touches the plants they will burn and sweat which is not good, find something to make a frame, 3 sticks in a teepee and drape a sheet around the plant - remove before sun touches- use a frame - this does work for me

littlemountian, I appreciate the advice, but if I made a teepee frame for the big plant, it would need to be damn near 10 feet tall, and way too visible, but I might try to do it for the smaller one... Like I said my budget is nil, but I realise I need to do something quick. I might have some planks lying around I might be able to rig something up. I will keep this thread updated strictly with information regarding covering the plants... I believe that if I use the frost blanket stuff I am currently using, that removing it isn't so much an issue, as it does breath and does let sun through, which would be a lot more convienient for me. Its too bad my other plants are way behind because the trees they are in are protecting them quite nicely from most of the crap weather I've had.

Those plants look almost done anyways, check the trichomes with a magnifying glass.
They should be an amberish color by now.

I just checked your weather forecast, nasty!. I would clone those plants as well for an indoor Winter project.

Hey sunbiz, thanks for stopping in! I am fairly sure these babies need at least another 2 weeks to even be close to done. Just looking at them with the naked eye, and looking at my macro pics, there isn't really many trichs on any of them, nonetheless amber trichs... As for cloning it, I was under the impression that you don't usually get very viable clones from plants this far into flowering, and I have no experience/powders/gels/setup for cloning. But I do have a little winter rubbermaid project on the go(random peakseed bean), which I will make a thread for once there is something worth showing.

You can regenerate those plants as well indoors(that's something I'll be posting pics on later in the Fall/Winter), I'm amazed they are not ready for harvest considering their size and the fact you are at least 600 miles north of here. Must be a very late maturation variety.
