Switching a plant grown hydroponically inside into dirt outside?

My buddy grows indoors hydroponically and he said i could have a plant or two... The plants are 2 feet tall. They are in rock wool surrounded with hydroton and under 24 hours of light...

First off is it alright if I switch them into dirt outside right away or should I move them into dirt pots for a few days under the light?

Before I do switch them outside I am going to put the plants in the dark by placing a black garbage bag on them.

Also will the sun be to intense for the plants? Because I don't think I can give them a few hours each day before I transplant it outside.

I'm an outdoor grower, so don't know much about the lighting on indoor grows, but that much change in a short period of time is going to be quite a shock to any plant.
I'd worry more about switching from the hydro grow to the dirt than moving outside to the sun, since the plant is already under 24 hour lights, but I would put it where it won't get hot afternoon sun until it's adjusted somewhat.

What if I switched the plants into a dirt pot for a few days and keep them under the light to adjust to dirt... and then when they are fine switch them from the pot to the spot outside... Does that sound like a good idea.

Unfortanately the spot i have picked out gets only afternoon sun. The path that gets to it is a path made by deer. So I will have to put fencing around my plants to stop nibbling. Its a lookout off on top of a giant cliff ha. I am going to dig the whole today and will try to take a picture out there to show you guys the spot.

I would think she wouldnt like getting blasted by the sun on er first day out. The spot sounds interesting. I would make sure i hole is really wet when ya put er in for life.:thumbsup: Good luck im sure she will be fine:D:D:rasta:

So now the whole a plant or two deal went around to two mothers and about 6 clones that hes going to give me... All are in a hydroponic system which i will be switching them into dirt pots and moving them to a temporary spot thats shady till i move all to their seperate spots... I'll be doing this tomorrow night.

Anymore advice that anyone has about switching clones into dirt or adjusting plants to the sun please comment freely...

you could plant them in dirt inside and let them be under 24hrs for 2 weeks to make sure of a good root hold then move them outdoors in big pots so youcan move them around if you have to

Now there's a good question, sounds like your friend has accelerated the growth rate. Now the trick is to simulate the end of the growing season outdoors. Yes, move those to soil and keep them under the indoor lighting until they come out of transplant shock.

After that, you'll need someone with a better expertise here to advise on lighting as I'm not sure how to adjust that for maximum pistil/resin output.

LetsSeeYa I will get some pictures i just haven't gotten my camera reformatted yet, but i will get them up soon.

Ill give an update on the plants for now... Most of the plants are doing pretty bad... I live in Minnesota and the night lately have been getting down to 45 F or about 8 C. I think between the transplant from hydro to soil, switch from artificial light to sunlight, and the drastic change in temperature has a pretty strong effect on the plants... ha.

But there is one clone and the bigger of the two mothers, dank mother, that are doing great... then there are about 5 clones that are wilting, and 4 clones that are almost dead. The only plant that has died so far is the "purple kush" mother plant which was had about 75% of the leaves dead when i got it.

Its looking pretty bad though because this strain is a 15 week flowering strain which would mean it would end in december... and that is WAY to cold for them. but...

all i can do is hope we have a late summer all the way into november... so i get atleast little buds.

It's to late now but if you really loved her then you would have thrown up a simple cheap pvc and polyethelyne greenhouse over her to give her until december to finish her business! Instead of rapeing and pillaging her at the first cold streak!! :)

works great for around 125 bucks you end up with a 7 foot tall, 15 foot wide and 18 foot long sanctuary for 10 or so mid-sized plants...the cost goes down dramatically when you shrink the size too!
