Clone Question...

I want to save pollen from a male to paint on some pistils later so I don't have my whole crop seeded. My question is if I take a cutting from a flowering male without open flowers and keep it under 12/12 indoors will it continue to flower though it's a cutting? I know cloning during flowering is a no-no, but I have no interest in it rooting or living long term, just long enough to give me some pollen. Will it work? I already have the cutting, it's doing fine in plan water that I will change once or twice a day. Alternate quesion: does anyone know of any breeders or seedbanks that sell pollen? Help Appreciated.

What you should do instead is dig up that male plant and transplant it somewhere far far away from there and then gather the pollen...

I believe that cutting would need roots for it the keep growing and producing the pollen in the sacs...

I'm in no way a pro on male pollen producing, but I like to think I know a thing or two about plants as I am majoring in botany...

Anyway, my thoughts are that your cutting has now stopped focusing its energy in pollen production and has reverted back to producing roots, hopefully, your cutting does not have too much foliage because that will make it dry out and die at an expedited rate. I am unsure if the cutting will root but IF it does, then once it gets back into the swing of things it should continue flowering.

Males are dangerous things man, one sac opens and the whole crop is effed. You really should just move the whole thing anyway if you want to avoid seeding your entire crop...

Thanks for your help. The cutting is in my window, I've already removed the rest of the plant. I've been looking around and I found a guy that dos the same thing for his pollen. It seems that if the male plant is far enough into flowering the sacks will open in a last ditch effort to spread pollen. He doesn't even keep the cutting on 12/12, though I'll continue to. It's not rooting, but the sacs appear about to open. He just cuts a hole in a plastic cup to fit the stem through(to catch the pollen), then puts the stem in a glass of water and voila. Says he's been doing it for years and it takes up less space than keeping a whole plant separated from the pack.
