Alerts say cartel may resort to deadly force

SELLS - The reputed head of Mexico's Sinaloa drug cartel is threatening a more aggressive stance against U.S. law enforcement, instructing associates to use deadly force, if needed, to protect increasingly contested trafficking operations, authorities said.

Such a move by Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman, Mexico's most-wanted man, would mark a turn from the cartel's previous position of largely avoiding violent confrontations north of the border - either with American law-enforcement officers or fellow traffickers.

Local police and federal agents in Arizona said they recently have received at least two law-enforcement alerts focused on Guzman's reported orders that his smugglers should "use their weapons to defend their loads at all costs."

Guzman is believed to have delivered the message personally in early March, during a three-day gathering of his associates in Sonoita, a small Mexican town a few miles south of the Arizona border, according to confidential U.S. intelligence bulletins sent to several state and federal law-enforcement officials, who discussed them on the condition of anonymity.

The Sonoita meeting is one of several signs that Guzman is becoming more brazen even in the face of a Mexican government crackdown on his activities and continued turf rivalries with other traffickers.

they know it, but let's face it, no one like's to admit they're wrong. but true, legilazation would cut those jokers income. it's hard to buy guns if you're broke.

Both governments make a lot of money off of this. Its never been about whats right its been about excuses to raise more taxes and persecute innocent people.

I can't decide if this is a good thing. It could either make people wake up and think what the above posts have said. Or it could make people just wanna crack down harder.

You can't just legalize something and it all goes away. That would be naive to think that. Sure, it would hurt them, but marijuana is not the only thing coming through there. There has been a increasing amount of cocaine that comes through as well.

Plus, if you were a leader of the drug cartel and something like that does happen (legalization), then wouldn't that piss you off to have take a loss? It may escalate from there, or they could just start worrying about the trafficking of the harder drugs! Don't get me wrong I'm all for the legalization of MJ, but to think that the problems in Mexico will stop if we legalize is a bit remedial to believe.

In my opinion, only way I see at this working out for both of us (legalization and stopping drug cartel) is to find that SOB Guzman or whoever is the big man and kill that f***er :D Well maybe not that extreme, but they need to get him soon or s*** is just going to keep hitting the fan! :wtf:

lots more than weed in the mix here.

Legalize it all. Its a personal use issue not a legal issue. If the government truely cared about the issue they would try to help the addicts get off the more serious substances. But the truth is they like it the way it is because they can get generous government grants to fight a problem that doesn't really exist.
