Sooooo many questions!
Before I begin with my first post (it surely wonā??t be the last) let me take a minute to thank all of you for the time that youā??ve put into my education. Iā??ve been reading for months and learn each and every time. Praise be to you all, or Yā??all depending on where youā??re from. :)
Iā??m just putting together my ā??secret roomā?. Getting plumbing, electric, ventilation etc infrastructure in place and hoping to do a good job the first time. The room is 10ā?? long, 5 ½ā?? wide and 7ā?? 6ā?? high. The veg/flower portion is 5ā?? wide, the depth is up to me but as I plan to scrog, it seems that about 30ā? deep ought to be about right to reach in under the screen to arrange things.
The plan for the moment is a (4) 5 gal DWC bubbler buckets.
1st question: Would I even consider 6 buckets in a 5ā?? X 2 ½ā?? space. In all the reading I havenā??t really seen anything that defines space per plant, or optimal space for that matter. Should I order and build 6 buckets and set up the controller for 6 or just stay with the 4 that I planned.
2nd question: Since Iā??m dealing with 12 ½ sq ft a 600w HID would be ideal, but would it handle the spread (5 feet wide) or should I consider a 400W and a 250W to spread the lights out to fit the space. Not necessarily looking forward to the cost of 2 but Iā??ll do it if itā??s the right thing to do. Or possibly one specific reflector better than the others to help spread the light. If itā??s left to me Iā??ll probably just ā??Kool Tubeā? it so that I have the option to add more ventilation if necessary. Anybody wanting to elaborate on fan volume for single or multiple reflectors, Iā??m ready to learn.
3rd question: The small oscillating circulation fan/fans in the veg/flower room. Do you run them 24/7 or just the 18/6 or 12/12 light cycle. At this point ganging the power to the two would be easy.
If all these questions should have been separated into individual postsā?¦..set me straight.

Sooooo many questions!
Welcome
I wish I could answer your questions... but can I make a couple suggestions?
If you plan on keeping the flower room narrow like you said 5'x2.5', you could get the 600w and put in a linear(?) light mover. Otherwise, making the room a little more square would be the most efficient way.
But, why not just split the whole room down the middle? Then you have a 5'x5' flowering room...
As for the area, it's really up to you. Since you are doing Scrog it might make things a little more difficult. I just did a scrog grow (2nd link in sig) with 2 plants and had them in the same screen. Not sure how you were planning your screen, but I'd say having them separate is much easier. But as far as how long to veg, when to put the screen on, what kind of area is best... those all depend on the strain you are working with (if you have everything else right, of course). Some will stretch more in flower than others, so with some you may want to fill 50% of the screen before flowering, and some maybe 70%.
For me, I did a grow with LST first, then with Scrog on the same strain the next. I had plenty of pictures from each week, so I could kind of gauge how much they would stretch during flowering. On my scrog grow, I did a lot of LST during veg, and put them under the screen two days before flowering (the two plants filled up about 60% of the screen).
So, if you LST well, you won't need the screens in your veg room, which would just take up space.
Here's a good scrog log, where I got a lot of ideas from -->http://boards.cannabis.com/closet-ca...ly-ladies.html
Hope this helps a little... good luck

Sooooo many questions!
if your building your room from scratch give your self 6 and half feet.trust me i have the exact same space as you do with 2 600"s. i was running 6 buckets and its ok for the space but you have 0 room to move around in.im trying to switchto a 3 by 6 tray and it leaves me no room.as it sits now i shit you not i spend about 90 percent of my time lying on my side trying to work my way to the back of the room and its a real pain in the ass" seriously". as far as reflectors go your going to want anything that is wider that 22" .c.a.p make these rerlectors called the xxl i think there 28" wide and spread the light really well if yoused in conjuntion with the 600 watt,if i could go back and do it again i would pick up the c.a.p reflectors.good luck with your project.

I looked at light movers and it seemed a rather big deal just to move the light a few feet, it looks like a second light would end up less expensive in the long run. The room, the situation, etc doesnā??t seem to lend itself to splitting it the other way. It appears that I pretty much have to go with what Iā??ve got. Or as they say ā??dance with who brung meā?. I enjoyed your ā??lovely ladiesā?.

Sorry for me the room isnā??t from scratch, and I do realize that a different configuration would be optimal. And the lack of depth is to avoid that ā??pain in the assā? of being jammed into too tight a space. Real good tip on the reflectors, Iā??ll definitely look into that.

Sooooo many questions!
Bigtopsfinn.
I spoke too soon. I continued to look at light movers and found a 4 footer from Hydrofarm that looks like it could work. I'll try to contact them and see if it has adjustable stops. Thanks again.
