I have done alot of research on here about exhaust and carbon scrubbers. I read the DIY section about carbon scrubbers but I don't understand if that device is inserted in the ductwork or simply sitting outside the cabinet. And if it is inside the ductwork infront of the exhaust fan, how is this attached for maximum efficiency? Thanks alot!
You can mount them just about anywhere. Some people put them in the same room and just recycle the air in that room. I use a 6" duct to suck the air out of my flower room and into a seperate room that use for heat and odor control. There are a lot of great designs around for building diy scrubbers.
Thank you for your reply bud. I read the DIY instructions on how to MAKE a carbon scrubber and I'm confident I can pull it off, but I just can't find any instructions on how to incorporate it into my ducting out of my cabinet. This may be a very simple question but I am very new to this. Thanks.
check out the pics on my thread cause it will give you a look at bodoms scrubber, basically your pushing exhausted air out usually using a inline duct fan of some sort and out the box and thru the scrubber into whatever room you have your box or closet in.
The easiest is to just use an inline 6 inch fan, drill a 6 inch hole in your cabinet and attach the fan to the cabinet then attach the scrubber to the fan.
I used a little ductwork (a few inches long) and suspended several fans in my room by hanging them from a bungee cord. Works great since my cabinets are kind of flimsy. My scrubbers are on the floor or on the wall.
Ok. So my cabinet is going to be 4'x3'x2'. My ductwork is probably only going to consist of the plastic piping they use for plumbing, 4" or 6" in diameter max. I will have passive intake as well.
So can I mount that carbon scrubber into my plastic ducting somehow? I'm not much of a plumber haha. Or should I scrap the plastic piping idea? I've looked all around on here to find a cabinet where someone used that plastic hard tubing as ductwork and incorporated a fan and carbon scrubber in there. Sorry for all the questions guys I'm just trying to get this planned out perfect so I don't find any surprises down the road. Thanks.
If you are using that type of hard plastic tubing cause that is all you have then cool, but otherwise its prolly more expensive then cheapo aluminum kind. Also building it into your plumbing by that you are trying to inline the actual scrubber which is harder to do then placing it at the end or beginning of the duct work. I have some pretty easy to see pics in my thread which you can find a link at the btm of my posts. there are really good cab/closet pics on this site that should help. At the end of it all remember to have fun, cause it will be. :thumbsup:
Also your cab and mine are similar sizes. mine is 4'w/30''D/4'H temps really play a part with a box this size as I have found. Also the fan that will blow on the actual plant in the box is also fun to work into along with the ducting etc. I have reworked mine and may do a few things different but overall the exhausting the heat/old air makes or breaks me.:)
well I guess i don't need to use that plastic ductwork as I have bought nothing yet. I am using it for my passive intake, just gonna have a 90 degree bend to keep light from getting in or out. I just thought if I used it for that I might as well use it for my exhaust as well. I may not need to use tubing at all for my exhaust but I thought that might be the only way to keep from letting light in or getting out of the exhaust hole. Wow I am learning so much from this site. You guys are great.
