Got a gift from a friend today to try out. It is a
GE LED10p3ls830
magnified 10 watt unit.
It is VERY bright similiar to HID type lighting, looks like the sun when you look into it! Very heavy bulb too, weighs about a pound!
Will this help my grow at all, or just a waste or space?

The lamp in the photo has a bi-pin base. Is that how the 10W is? Or is it a standard "Edison" screw-in household-lightbulb-type base?
Do you have access to a spec sheet on it? Would be helpful to know the approximated color temp (use it for veg, or flower?) and/or if it was designed for a reading light, say, or general household illumination.
"White" leds are just blue leds with a filter coating to make them appear white to our eyes. The coating makes the led less efficient.:( So your light isn't going to hurt anything :thumbsup:(unless you've already got heat problems) but would be less effective than an equal amount of watts-burned in a red/blue system.

Its Edison screw in type. Dont have access to any spec sheet... I guess I will just buy a UFO, they are getting cheaper!
There are about 20 different UFO lookin' lamps out there. Many are manufactured using cheap parts by folks with no regard for Western intellectual property rights or any scruples as far as "truth in advertising" goes. People buy these lights, figger out they done been lied to, and wash their hands of leds forever after. Tell all their friends "leds no workee." :(Quote:

I think folks are ready to start some "gutshot" threads of the various UFO ripoffs exposing what components are actually in the various units. :thumbsup: It ain't usually what they claim, trust me. Procyons are the only pre-fab units I'd feel confident buying at this point, except for huge-money T1 Smart lamps and comparable legit pro hort setups.
