Is there a difference? HPS of 2000k , 2100K or 2200 K?

Thanks for reading my questions. I'm buying a HPS light bulb after using a 150w HQI to flower for one and a half weeks. After reading threads on HQI and HPS, I've come to realize that it does make a difference between the two. Thanks for those who contributed to this topic and I really read that part.
Unfortunately, the only kind of HPS light bulbs I could purchase near my town which all have the color temperature of 2000 K. I then browsed through ebay and found out most of HPS on ebay were labled 2100 K. Is the 2000k HPS an industrial one used for street lamps? Is it proper for flowering?
Moving from 150W HQI to 250W or 400W HPS is a big step for me, I'm kinda concerned with the heat generated from a 400W HPS (I'm only using a normal fan and a open window for ventilation in my grow room/flowering room) Is there really a big difference between a 250w and a 400w HPS?

Generally the lower the kelvins the better for bloom. As for your heat think of it this way your almost doubling your wattage so there will be an increase in temp, tough to say how much.

Thaks for your reply. Maybe buying the 2000K HPS is okay for me now.
If the lower the better... the 2000K HPS is supposed to be better than the 2100K HPS I saw on ebay. However, I'm just curious about why the two peak points for percentage of maximum absorbtion for budding are at 2752 and 2458. Just looking the diagram , it just kinda seems to be that the closer to 2458, the better. I've read about threads on CFL grow and CFL grow suggests using a mixture of CFL's of different Kelvins from lowest 3000 (which is close to 2752) to 65000 K.
I'm not sure if the same reason applies to the 2100 K HPS I saw on ebay(because 2100K is closer to 2458) , just wondering if there is any other HPS closer to 2458K or 2752 K eg:2200K ,2300K) I just don't really know what varieties of Kelvins for HPS there are in the market, anyone know ? Thanks

I would say to go with the 250 hps and hang a couple 2700k CFL's. Maybe four 26 watters to widen the spectrum from just that 2000k hps bulb. how big is the grow space, and is getting a small air conditioner unit in that window an option?:jointsmile:

I've been growing hydropoically since Feb and the first MH light system I bought was an HQI in Feb. I tried to grow on my balcony but realized it was not possible (I live in a city) so I grew indoor and started to pay attention to all the details like lighting, ventilation, ...etc. I use an open metal-cage closet with no door and no back wall. It's placed against a white painted wall in my room. (for flowering I do cover the closet with a light proved curtain but it's very ventilated )

Thanks for the advice. I'm using an 150 Watt HQI (6000K I think) with 2 CFLs(not sure the Kevlins though, they were used and mounted on my Sea Fish Tank before) I thought with the 250 watt HPS coming I'd be rid of the CFLs, now the light spectrum question I've run into seems to require an CFL ... LOL .. :) I wonder what Kelvins of HPS you are using or most people are using.... ? 2100 K or 2000K ?
As for the grow space .. I'm using a metal cage closet ( L 92cm x W 60cm x H 160 cm ) My room is 9 feet x 9 feet with an air conditioiner. :)

Plenty of room. =) go for the 400 watt hps and see about getting a really nice bulb.
There are a few 'enhanced spectrum' flowering bulbs that will help out with your lack of spectrum. Also, between the 2000-2200k range, I don't believe there will be much difference at all.
But, by some theories, including that 660nm red spectrum produces resin most efficiently. I'd go with the 2000k.
But as I said, I don't believe there will be much difference if you were to go with the 2200k. As a suggestion, I'd go with an enhanced type.

Like you said, using a 2000k 250W HPS and a 2700K CFL to make up the spectrum difference may sound just perfect but I'm just confused with everyone getting a 400W HPS as if there was no heat problem at all. Now it's my turn, I'm excited and a bit worried of the heat it produces and the cost of Air conditioning bills used to maintained the room temp ( right now it fine and nice weather with wind breeze but it'll get hotter in mid May)
I'm only growing 2 hydro plants and mataining a soil grow mother plant and 3 clones struggling to survive and hopping to have a continuous harvest... ma

Hmmm, considering you are only doing a 3 plant + 1 mom perpetual garden...I'd say the 250 would be wayyyy more efficient. Electricity, heat, and lumens per sq. foot.
I would say you strategically prop white cardboard reflectors to concentrate your light. A 400 watt puts out enough light to grow 6+ plants 4' and get 8 ounces or more per harvest.
The wattage difference is only the output. The spectrum output is up to the brand of the light, whatever it's kelvin is dialed to. I don't know how bulbs are made, but either way. =P
I have a 2' x 4' space and a 250hps will put me at peak lighting for my space, and that's with 3+ plants getting 3' or taller. =)
Have a look at the lighting thread in my sig, it explains lumens per sq. foot and whatnot.
