If your going to grow, you may as well keep the gun in your house. In most places growing is still a serious offense, so honestly, what does it matter if you get that additional charge added. If it is a registered gun you really don't have much to worry about anyway, in particular if you don't use it to shoot cops if they bust in the door. Than you would be fucked.
If your going to grow I would suggest your armed though. I had friends who were raided by gun toting thugs because they knew they were holding. They weren't even growing, simply dealing and these fucks held them hostage in the bathroom for a few hours until they stole enough drugs to satisfy their thirst. Needless to say, they all carry handguns now. Not concealed, so it is legal in my wonderful state of Louisiana.

i lived in ohio most my life till just a few years ago but i do know this if you get busted commiting a felony in the state of ohio and you have a gun you will get an extra 5 years. also ohio is one of them states that say if you get 10 years you will do all ten years no early outs. except of course parol wich i should say no early parole. also if you have a concealed carry liscense you atomaticaly give up your search and sesiure rights. ohio is for the most part pretty peacful place i would get rid of the gun.
I agree with Yokinazu for the most part. Many states do have laws that make possession a firearm during the commission of a felony an offense that will likely get you more jailtime (and an extra felony). But as much as I am an advocate for decriminalization of MMJ, I'm an even bigger advocate of our Second Ammendment rights.
My advice: If you're just growing for yourself (aren't planning some large-scale commercial grow), AND you know how to keep quiet about your operation, then it's not as likely that you would need to worry about being raided. You'd probably have more of a chance of burgulars kicking your door in, rather than the DEA, and being able to protect yourself in that situation like that would be important. On the other hand, if you plan on growing pounds of commercial grass (with the intent to sell) and aren't very good about keeping your private life quiet, then I'd ditch the gun. The majority of the growers around here only grow for personal use, and I know for a fact that several are responsible gun owners. I know because I'm one of them.
Yeah I think most states have an automatic addon to the charges if there are any firearms in the house. Another ridiculously stupid law.
so if i rented a small storage rental unit and store it there would that be better? as it would not be in house?
yes, your not in possession of it during time of the felony
I keep my Gun and my grow room both close at hand, but that's me..

Depends IF you get busted what the cops/judge are like. Maybe they hate the 2nd amendment and would deem you a gun toting, dope smoking maniac. I'd forget about it. Keep the grow secret and you won't need it.
It some states it doesn't matter what the judge or DA want. Its automatic. You have a gun in your possession while committing a crime, its an automatic felony.
