Advice (Plants Sad and on the verge of death maybe)

I planted my Afgan Kush Plant, and while attempting to take its roots out of the sponge, I think I ripped some roots so just planted it like that with the sponge..

Not to mention the roots were exposed for a pretty good time..

This is its second day planted, I will kick my own ass if it dies but how can I keep it alive.

Also this soil doesn't look best should I mixed it with dirt? I want to leave it like this in the pot for maybe a week then worry about changing the soil.

Soil looks like it has too much water also.. and I did throwa ton of earth worms in the soil, heard it was good for soil..

This is the first time.

What do you guys got for me??

You germinated the seed in a sponge, then tried to remove it after it sprouted? :wtf:

Too many questions left unanswered for anyone to really know anything other than what you've described. If you're having problems, you should fill out the Troubleshooting Form out as accurately as possible if you want an accurate diagnosis.

To try answering some of your questions:

• For a plant that size, you might consider using a smaller container next time. Excess soil + no roots growing in it = accidental overwatering and stagnant conditions, leading to more undue frustration.
• Perlite is your friend, and your earthworms will probably die unless you know how to keep them alive. Might consider supplementing worm castings next time, as opposed to actual worms.

It looks healthy so it will probably be fine. The sponge should be no big deal, thats really all rockwool is, no nutrients. I would pickup some good quality potting soil and transfer it in a couple weeks. I like to go directly from dixie cups to 3 gallon containers.

i agree with mr. clandestine and killer.

get some perlite, and mix it in a 2:1 soil to perlite ratio. this will help your soil drain as well as air get to your roots better.

also, try to keep your soil level within an inch of the top of your container. stagnant air likes to, well stagnate, and cause your stems to wilt and die (think it's call pythium wilt).

your plant should survive.

So When I watered it I guess I might have not dretched it.. Anyway, the weather has been hell.. When I say that I mean 100 degress.. I looked at the plant today AND BANG BOOM!!! I gave it very little water Yesterday.. thought it was enough. How much do you give it??

I replanted it in normal soaked dirt.. Will it Survive?? And When I replanted it I took the whole sponge out which exposed roots and tore off another root. FML!

I didn't know these plants were so sensitive!

yes clandesstein, I removed it and put it back in the cup, help me, I rhink I deprived it of water. Do u think it might survive?

To be honest, it's looking pretty grim. One of the reasons it's not always a great idea to transplant a seedling into a large container is because the the topsoil (top 1-2 inches) can dry out fairly quickly, while leaving everything else beneath the topsoil still moist, or even completely saturated. If the soil stays too wet, the roots will die... because they need at least some oxygen to thrive. And if there's already been some trauma to the roots, especially when the plant is young, it'll just make it that much harder for it to establish a healthy root system. These plants are generally pretty damn hardy and can take a ton of abuse, but when they're really young it's often a different story. I wouldn't try transplanting it another time, because it's very doubtful it would survive any more trauma, but next time you plan on growing it would be a good idea to get some quality potting soil and make sure it's well-aerated (perlite works well).

Go ahead and give the topsoil around the stem a light watering (definitely not enough to soak all the soil in the pot), and it might make a slow recovery. If all it needed was water, it should perk back up again. Hard to say with any certainty, though... since there could be other issues besides torn roots.

If, worst case scenario, it doesn't make it, I would highly recommend that you spend as much time as you possibly can reading through the FAQs, as well as the Growing section of the forums. I've been here for a couple of years, and was already growing several years before I started coming here, and I still find threads here all the time that teach me something I never knew. Posts by any of the moderators, especially StinkyAttic, should be treated like pure gold... and other senior posters, like Rusty Trichome, Dutch Pimp, the image reaper, Weedhound, Shovelhandle, Opie Yutts, xcrispi, Rhizome (just to name a few - there are many more) all give great advice that you can take to the bank. You'll find more insight than you'll know what to do with... guaranteed. But you have to actually take the time to read.

We all make mistakes, so don't be too hard on yourself if the plant dies. Just make sure that you learn from your mistakes, like pretty much every other grower has had to do, and you'll be less likely to repeat those same mistakes in the future.

looks like a clone that didn't have any roots

Did I mention I replanted it into the cup? Well I watered it imediately and again after I saw it regained strength today. It has clay dirt from the Hillside; and is covered with normal potting soil.

I will buy these from ebay?

Am glad it made it so far. I guess I will water it everyday and not skip a day. Also, a week of cold weather is returning and has 2 days of constant rain. I should move the plant into the garage right? But without a light it will die.. What is the type of flouresant light these plants require? I will definitely go to home depot today or tomorrow and purchase it. Thanks
