Question regarding Mylar and uneven surface
I am a medical user and attempting to grow my own for the first time.
I have a shed where I am going to build a grow box.
The question I have is.. If you look at the picture below, will there be a problem with I use that wall with the support beams and Mylar? Should I tack up a flat board first so the Mylar is flat? or just wrap it around the support beams? If I do that will that cause a problem with heat spots?
Any help would be much appreciated and when I get this going I will be doing a grow log.
Thanks
Question regarding Mylar and uneven surface
yeah, I was wandering the same thing! and which is better, mylar or flat white?
Question regarding Mylar and uneven surface
Flat white paint would help reduce any heat problems. (Mylar reflects heat as well as light. Weedhound proved that....)
Question regarding Mylar and uneven surface
yes if using Mylar you would need a flat surface to put it up on but as DP pointed out you wont have the heat issue with paint. I am using a roof coating made by Koolseal. It has 95% reflectivity and when dry has a moisture barrier to fight against mold and such which is great for me as I do Hydro. Can be purchased at home improvment stores and runs about $20 a gal but 1 gal goes a long ways.
Question regarding Mylar and uneven surface
I recommend you go with flat white paint, Mylar just sucks :( ... I used 2-mil. DuPont Mylar (the best, and pretty expensive) ... after a couple grows, the surface was so dulled, and fogged, it wouldn't reflect light worth a damn ... waste of money ... my next cabinet will likely be built, using Home Depot's 'Tileboard' ... it's a 4' x 8' sheet, about 1/8" thick, that has a waterproof, white porcelain-like finish on one side ... it's used for bathroom/shower walls, etc., and for making 'dry-erase marker boards' ... only costs about $9 a sheet, too ...
Question regarding Mylar and uneven surface
Hey, LD, The tile board sounds like a good op, Paint much cheaper, did you say shed? Maybe it would be wise to use the koolseal, as it will seal every crack for bugs and light leaks, just my thoughts! I would not go with the mylar. Buzz
Question regarding Mylar and uneven surface
Thanks all for the advice. I was talking to a friend today (long time grower) and he also suggested the White Paint. His reasons were its easier and cheaper to touch up and the Mylar needs to be replaced every few months or it becomes less reflective than the paint.
All good advice. Thanks
