Sexing

I got my plants to about 10-12" now and I want to sex them. Do I really need to do the whole cloning thing, grow them up, then put them under 12 hours of light. Thats a 2 month project. Bummer. Does anyone have any shortcuts for this impatient burnout? Thanks gang.

That's why potheads all over are not growing thier own. It takes time. You can either put the plant into flower just untill you see a few white hairs and put it back to veg for mother or get cutting off each plant and clone them and put them in flower to tell what is female.

My bro found out the hard way about losing mothers and getting them back. It can take 3 to 4 months easy even 6 months. Unless you get fem seeds. While we were trying to get mothers back I do a grow with as many as I can and take my chances. Out of 18 plant 2 or 3 are male big deal. It gets us by till we have mothers again. 2 or 3 out of that are usually runts anyway.

If you have enough put them all in flower and when you see hairs take one for mother out and put back to veg. By the time you can get enough clones from it the rest will have buds. It's the fastest way and then the clones are even faster the next time and the next time. Start cloning about a month into the others flower and veg clones, then when harvest comes clones go in. It's all gravytrain from there. Then you have plenty of time to get new strains cause you want something dif.

Honestly, I think you'd be consuming more time switching the whole crop over to 12/12, rooting out the males, then reverting to veg. Depending on their age, it often takes a week or more just for the plants to show signs of sex after the switch, then several weeks to resume normal growth after being switched back, even at 24/0.

With the cloning method, you're looking at roughly the same amount of time to determine sex, but at least your main crop will have still been vegging the whole time and will likely have grown a good bit by the time you know the sex of the clones. Then you can either switch everything to 12/12 immediately, and have some female clones that will already be flowering for you, or you can continue to veg the plants (and clones) out for more yield. It's up to you how you go about it, but I still think this is the most efficient way to sex plants if you have an extra place for the clones and an extra timer.
