Question about pipe resin

in the 5 years of so I've been using marijuana i have generally smoked out of glass pipes or sometimes metal one-hitters and a dugout.

it seems like every piece i own eventually develops a heavy layer of gross, wet resin on the inside of the pipes making it smell. i know all pipes of course gain resin, but usually it becomes hard and dry... the stuff in my pipes stays wet until i clean it out, but it's just disgusting...

is there anything i can do while smoking to prevent this? you really shouldnt need to clean a glass bowl more than once a month, you could maybe scrape the inside of the bowl but the inside shouldnt be clogged, this wet resin is extremely sticky and stains anything it touches

In my experience this is very normal, and sounds as though it has been in your experience as well. Best method I've found for cleaning is salt and alcohol. I use a 91% isopropyl from CVS and sea salt. The abrasiveness of the salt scrapes away sticky resin. Use along with a pipe cleaner if you like. Not much to do in the way of prevention that I know of, but you could probably keep her clean by soaking in some alcohol after each use - probably won't even get to the point of needing to use salt if you soak regularly.

If you so choose you can scrape the resin into a ball before cleaning (easier after heating a little with your lighter) and smoke it when you're hard up, but this is not healthy and tastes pretty nasty. But it will get you high.

use COARSE grain cooking salt if you have a large pipe or bong, or table salt for small pipes (IMO)!!

Sea salt works wonders! I used a measly 70% isopropyl rubbing alcohol with a pinch of sea salt on my bong earlier today and the gunk inside was gone after a few good shakes.

the resin stays wet because you smoke alot. find you another piece or two for your collection and rotate. this will help the resin dry out better.

If you are like me you have your "favorite" pipe that goes with you everywhere. about every half oz. I have to scrape it or resin starts leaking out. I found a little metal plate that I use to dry out my resin. let it sit for a week and it's actually smokable.

as for smoking resin, I actually like the buzz. sometimes I even smoke it when I have bud just to mix it up! if I have weed i'll load a bowl and put a little ball of resin on top. If not, I put cigarette or weed ashes in the bottom to help it burn better.

and for cleaning my pipe(about every 3 months) I soak it in everclear, or just boil in water. boiling works really well. If you have a glass piece, make sure you place it in the water before you bring it to a boil. if you throw a room temp glass bowl into boiling water it may crack.

there is a super easy solution to this, get a vape, lol. nah i kid i kid. res = gross but its inevitable, like gettin an itch from a hooker, its just part of the fun..... iso and salt = magic, if your res is really gross, drop 2.99 on some 99% iso and let it sit over night, it will prolly make you want to stop smoking once you see the color of the iso, but its all good.
