Bagseed discussion

Can we please clear the air on something for all new growers who choose to use bagseed to learn the trade?

Now let me start by saying that bagseed is way better than noseed, I'm sure we can all appreciate that. Second, if that is your only viable option, you should grow the hell out of it the best that you can, and we are all here to help you in that regard.

However, you must stop posting pictures of your "babies" and asking people how big they should be, what they should look like, when they are ready for harvest, and other "STRAIN" specific type questions. NO ONE on the forums can predict what your bammer bean will do. You don't know what the hell it is, so how could anyone predict anything for you?

I just had to vent this out because I'm seeing this trend among these CFL grows. I'm proud of every single grower that puts seed #1 into anything to grow it, sincerely, but you have to use your brains when posting, so you don't aggravate the piss out of the very people that have the desire to help you. THINK before you ask, and if you have a question, just ask it. Don't post a title that says you have questions, then the only question you have is "How am I doing?". Ask tons of questions, but try to be direct rather than vague. You will be contributing to everyone by asking things outright, trust me.

Sorry if I have offended anyone, but I searched and couldn't find anything spelling this out and thought there should be a dedicated thread.

^^True for the most part... the only thing I kind of disagree with is that once the plants are a couple weeks old, you can usually tell something from the leaves concerning height and flowering time. It's easy to spot a sativa dominant, long and thin leaves- so you will have a very tall, skinny, and long-flowering plant. Exactly the opposite with indica dominant, and somewhere in the middle if it's a hybrid. But that's about all anyone can tell you, and if you've been reading up, you should know that already :)

Waiting to sex the plant during veg? Could take 4 weeks, could take 8, patience...

As for the "how am I doing"... ask your questions if you have them, otherwise start up a grow log, and people will definitely tell you how you are doing :thumbsup:

Many great legendary strains & species were once "bag seed". Sure their's a Perl in every few hundred-thousand oysters but id rather spend the few hundred to ensure great genetic selection. Strawberry cough for instance is way more efficient of an anti anxiety medicine then any benzodiazapine will ever be.

Love bag seed cause I don't have an option on good genetics at the moment. Growing is a great hobby regardless of seed stock.

For learning how to grow at first...i guess bagseed is good. With how easy it is to get great genetics all over Canada, UK, and US...I think that not getting good genetics at the start is kinda pointless though imo. I dont know anyone that starts growing thinking, "I cant wait to harvest this swag!!" Seeds are SOOOOOOO cheap now a days. Another added benifit from getting proven genetics is that many growers have already done most of the work for you. There are grow videos and well documented stats for almost all of the A+ strains out there. I look at it like this....you can do everything perfect with swag and no matter what...you stilll got swag :(

I'm sorry but if someone would not tell you it was bag seed you would not have a clue even if you smoked it. It would be a good grow or it would not. Has almost nothing to do with where the seeds come from.

All SEED are chronic in the hands of the right grower.

Case in point. My Bro is sooo cheap. How cheap is he you ask ?
Well he's soooo cheap he can take the best genetics and in just one grow turn it into swag. He has no patients. He doesn't watch his PH. He only gives them well water. He's soo cheap he has nutes he owes me for from a year ago. No nutes for the plant cause they ain't doing what he says and besides they owe him thier very life. Then he smokes them before you hardly see white hairs and wonders why he doesn't have the chronic. He is the De-evloved man.

So guys and gals out there. Don't ask what strain it is cause nobody knows but you.
Give it a name yourself like pineapple express. Everybody likes a good name.

My Bro is sooo pissed at me now cause he thinks I owe him and he is jellous.
My last crop was not big but the papaya turned purple at the end. so it was called GRAPE APE or OBAMA. Every body that tries it loves it and it keeps the cops confused if they hear about it.

Our next crop has a bunch of hawiianxSkunkxBigBud. No body wants to hear that and it smells just like Tooty fruity chewing gum and if you smoke tooo much you will trip balls.
So we will call it tooty fruity or balls to the walls.

I find bag seed is hard to grow. As an experiment I started some bagseed from a friend and some Nirvana Papaya at the same time. All conditions were equal. The Papaya seed (in the middle) out performed the bag seeds during the first 3 weeks.

Didn't get to finish any of it...had to abort the grow...:(..but, the point is: good genetics with good hybrid vigor sure makes growing easier...IMO.

IMO, There is no way in hell that Ed Rosenthal or Jorge Cervantes could turn mex ditch weed into chronic without doing massive genetic changes. Then again mabey yours and my definition of chronic may be completely different...that must be what it is. :jointsmile:

he's not saying that bag seed will replace quality genetics. what he's saying is that any seed can be grown top notch. take a look at my grow logs. i was using CFLS and bagseed and it turned out pretty nice. it was in miracle grow at that. people thought it was 'dro.

mexican ditch weed didn't start out looking brown and compressed. it was nice and green, just like what you grow, albeit probably not covered in trichs. that has to do with the amount of effort and quality of equipment, nutes etc.

so bagseed can in fact come out as the chronic.
