Is growing my plants on a 12/12 light cycle from the beginning a good idea?
I heard that it saves time. How tall will they usually grow too under this cycle? I'm using a grow box that only allows 2 1/2 feet so I figured if it does grow smaller thats not so bad. I'm just wondering if they'll grow as efficiently, and if they'll have as high a yield.

12/12 from begining. Even if it's auto flower they need some veg time. When they go straight to 12/12 the roots stop growing and they start to flower. You need roots. When you go to 12/12 they will only double in size or maybe just a bit more. You need a root mass to get good buds.
Oh and a sea of green is when you harvest half and then put new ones in for continual harvest every month or 2 weeks. I think you mean a screen of green in which you train them to go through a screen placed over them to fill up the area all the same height. Either way you can't because that takes even more veg time.

a plant will survive, and grow on 12/12, but yield suffers greatly ... it's all up to your level of patience: 'YIELD or Speed' ??? (you can't smoke 'time saved') :D

a grower friend of mine, recently did a 12/12 hydro-growing experiment, kept a log, too ... healthy-looking little plants, frosty, etc ... I 'think' he said he got a 4-gram yield from his plant, if memory serves ... a lot of wasted time and expense (let alone, the legal risk) for 4-grams ... but, it was just an experiment, we learned from it ... :smokin:

What triggers these plants to flower "Bud" is the shortening of the photo period,
that is how long the day is. It may work, but the typical is start with 18hrs (metal halide)in the vegative stage and and switch to 12 hrs with high pressure sodium to force budding. Depending on strain, you will be done approx. 7-10 weeks later.
If you start at 12hrs, and cut back to 6 or 8, you will simply stunt the plants, in my opinion.
