HELP PLZ - Question about Medical Exam Urinalysis

I have a question regarding an upcoming medical exam I have for work...

The company I work for in PA requires us to take a medical exam, every other year, in which they bring a mobile medical bus to give all employees the exams onsite. The tests include a standard physical, xrays, EKGs, hearing test, bloodwork, etc... and lastly a Urinalysis.

They give us a container to take home a week or so before hand, to pee into at home or where ever, and ask us just to bring it to the exam and hand in when we do the bloodwork part of the exam.

My question is...
what are the chances they checking for drugs with my pee sample?? Or are they just checking for other common medical thingies like the bloodwork???

I am new to the company (this is my second year and first bi-annual physical exam). I asked other people in the company for more info on what they are checking for (if they were checking for drugs or not) and no one knew for sure or not.

BTW - I am a regular smoker (almost daily) and would definately not pass a drug test. But the situation could allow to get someone else's piss if I had to (however my replacement would be half my age and half my weight, could that raise a red flag of it not being my piss if examined closely??)

Yup, I'd be worried too. Probably 90% chance you're gonna get a drug screen. Go ahead and get somebody clean to piss for you. That's why they let you take the jar home, they don't want ya to flunk.

Make sure the same sex as you pees for ya.

If you're 20 and you get a 10 year old, not a good idea. But if you are 40 and get a 20 year old, no problems there. You might have somebody checking for testosterone levels, so that's why you can't get a chick to pee for ya!

Go forth & substitute, don't worry about switching pee. Hope all goes well for you.

Damn President Nixon to hell for starting this crap in the first place. I hope he rots/burns slowly in a fiery pit... Notice how the bigwigs are exempt from drug testing? No Senators etc. have to pee in a jar, just us working class slobs...

I agree with what you are saying... I just find it wrong that they can check for drugs in our piss without coming out and saying that is what they are doing (should be a law against it!!!). I do know that the do definately check the piss for other medical things and give us a report back of those things afterward.

Another thing i would like to mention is... I work with a guy who took the exam last year for the company who is also a fellow smoker. He told me he just stopped smoking for a week before he pee'd and he didnt have any problems (he is still employed). He also told me that is what I should do. But I dont thing 1 week is enough time to piss clean...

Well then they are probably not testing for drugs if dude was OK after a week. However, I wouldn't take the chance.

IMO 1 week for a daily smoker is not enough time to clear out the smoke.

I disagree with Lolagal sorry. They aren't testing your urine for drugs because if they were, they would have to follow chain of custody procedures in order for the test to hold legitimacy. Taking a container home and bringing it back a week later is not proper chain of custody procedure for a drug test.

That being said, I don't know if I would hand over urine specimen with THC metabolites in it. Anything's possible as mistakes can be made.

You should do some more reading and research because there is a law against it. If they are going to run a drug test on body fluids or tissue, you have to be informed and give constent. Tha doesn't mean that you can refuse and keep your job though.

As for consent... I am required to sign a medical consent form for the exam... the wording of it is as follows:

I hereby authorize (Med Co XZY Inc)* to release pertinent medical information, which is part of my current employeer's medical program, to those individuals requiring access. These individuals are limited to the consulting physicians and my employeer.

I am fully aware that these individuals must have access to specific areas of my records in order to comply with federal regulations and/or my employer's medical program. I have also authorized (Med Co XZY Inc)* access to previous medical information kept by my employeer.
* Med Co XZY Inc is the name of the company performing the exam.

There is nothing specific in the concent toward any drug testing... The title on the form is "Medical Consent".
