First Grow, Log one
Hello everyone, I have a few questions...
This plant is about 2-3 1/2 weaks old now.
Should it be only this big?
So far Im doing the light scheduals sort of random, Atleaste till I get a timer.
But Im trying to keep it at 18/6. Though I sometimes am off give or take a couple hours.
Theres a little yellowing on the bottom leaf you can see in the picture, Doesn't the bottom leafs turn yellow and fall off, Is this normal.
I don't have much money for a ph testing kit and all the things.
So I'm trying to go as cheap as possible.
If any one has imput please help a fellow out.
Okay pics of my lime-a-bean.
Its Ruffly about 6-7 Inches tall.
The lights:
Two - 100 watt regualare house hold bulbs, And One 150 watt Full Spectrum Sun Bulb. About 2 feet above limeabean.
The soil: Note: Im use a mix of the picture belowe, Along with Miracle Grow Organic Mix.
The Temp:
80.5-85.2 F
I have not used nutrients yet, I water once-twice daily, When I can stick my finger down in the soil and its dry, Not the top layer of course.
And the bulbs are regualre house bulbs, Incondesant.
I was going to use cfls but I could only find them in 75 watts, So it didnt seam like very much.

What do you mean 5000 kelvin color.
And the cfls are the wierd spiral energy saving bulbs correct?
So I need 3 - 75 wattage ones?
How much would thoes typically run?
Should I ditch the soil too.
I was reading on the back of the package it ses "Keeps your garden Weed free".
What would be a good soil with the right ph,
I dont want to use nutrients with this grow, As Im trying to go as natural as possible. So whats a cheap soil is what Im asking.
If some one can tell me a list of things for around 30 dollares, That I could use to make this successfull Id apreciate it very much.

Ok, I can see them now.
1. Your lights suck to put it simply. Got out and buy a 4 pack of CFL's 23-26 watts.
2. You will only need 1 or 2 lights right now. 3 is not necessary, especially household bulbs which I assume are incandesent. Ditch em all.
3. Move lights closer with CFL's you can go 2-3 inches. It is stretching way bad.
4. You should have started in a smaller pot. 16 oz. plastic cup and gradually move to bigger pots. That one you have it in is huge.
5. Soil looks dry, what's the water schedule?
Get back to me.
Edit: This is my response from the other forum. This should really be in plant problems forum.

You got any other seeds you can start. From the looks of it, I don't know if it'll make it too far. Prob better to start over.
That soil is garbage too, I just saw that post. Why do you think people call weed?

Read around there is lots of information in the threads here try FAQ in the grow forum.
With a few cfl lights you should be able to raise a pot plant to flower. The soil is important.
For a premix soil you could find a potting soil without the time released nutrients. To mix your own usually you'd need pro mix (which is a peat moss base) composted manure, perlite and vermiculite.
I start with a plain potting soil like Hyponex, add a little more of everything like composted manure, worm castings, perlite, vermiculite, peat moss and lime. Other things people may add would be bone meal, blood meal, bat guana, humic acid...it's a recipe.
