first log, first coco, first success?
Hello lovers of the herb. I am going to try out a log and really do my best to keep it up to date and relevant. I am coming off a fun season of outdoor and after doing lots of studying i have decided to give the coco a shot. I have only had mild success indoor with soil in my two attempts, and thought, why not complicate things a bit ;0 ?
To the details... Dutch Passion Power Plant, Sensi Seeds Northern Lights, and Mr. Nice Shark Shock. A handful of each. I would like to try and keep the numbers out of the log as i am a medical grower, and i do follow the law, but i am mildly paranoid ;)
I have moved recently and need to use a tent for a while. I think this will be a blessing because it will allow me to hone my skills before i build a larger room later in my life.
I am using a Dark Room 240. this is a 7+ x 7+ ft. tent. I will be running 4 X 600 HPS for flower and may switch my current fluoros to MH's for veg. The tent is in a box and will be built next week. Two 3x6 trays with a homemade dripper set-up. The reason i want the drip is because i plan on watering a few times a day, and as i am busy with a job, i want to be able to spend my time in the garden observing.
They are in Canna coco and i will likely go from the dixie cups directly into 3 gallon pails until finish.
For nutes i want to get Cannas line, but i have my PBP from the summer and really should use it. I am a bit concerned using it as i am less experienced, and have heard many times to use COCO SPECIFIC NUTES. We'll see if i can afford them when the time comes.
Anyone ever feel like chiming in, PLEASE DO. I am a novice grower trying to have fun, learn, and grow some potent herb. Here go's...
paper towel method until tap root showed. PPP 100% germ rate. NL 70%. SS 87%. Then directly into small dixie cups with 100% pure coco. Watered once before putting seed in and once since they sprouted three days later. Temps are 70-75 and fluoros are on 24 hours a day.
ps. just spent the last hour waiting for the cumputer to upload one picture...to no avail. So i will figure it out when the time comes for more exciting photos. I think my connection is weak.

Thanks for the well wishes guys. I appreciate it. I have followed many of your logs.

Shov, your on a different level and i enjoy gawking at your bowl candy!
first log, first coco, first success?
well so far the seedlings have been struggling. I checked the run-off ppm after a few days of no growth and overall yellowing-browning of edges. the ppm's were 650!! Woops. i have been watering with my tap which is 260 ppm, with nothing else added.
I think my problem was not letting it runoff enough. Was only watering until i saw it come out the bottom. Unless the Canna coco needed to be flushed first, but i have always heard it does not.
So i watered heavily with 1/2 tap 1/2 RO at 150 ppms, and ended up with runoff around 200ppms. I am hoping they recover. The first set of true leaves are real droopy:( I think i may germinate the rest of the seeds i have in case these all die.
What i have been working on now, other than trying to keep the seedlings alive, is:
Setting up my new 8ft x 8ft grow tent. I drew a diagram in the hopes that someone may be able to help. I tried to upload in "growroom design" but it would not let me, it said i am not allowed to post attachments? Anyhow here it is.
The reason i am concerned is because the window is huge and i am going to need to cover it(no light leaks), and at the same time use it to cool the air in the room the tent is in. I am trying to exhaust in the same room, avoiding cutting any holes in walls, hence the purpose of the tent.
Thanks peeps for checking me out.

Here is an update. I finally got a grasp on things and could not be happier with their progress. They are being put under the 400's tomorrow after being put into their final shoes(2 gal.). I have been watering using Botanicare and R/O about 850 ppm at 5.9 twice everyday.
The first pic is of two different looking Power Plants.
The next is a tray before transplant
The third are two Very different Mr. Nice Shark shock pheno's
The fourth is their new home.
The fifth is of one of only two surviving Sensi's Northern Light.
Hope you enjoy, and i'll keep this updated now that things are on the up:jointsmile:

Did you quit using tap altogether? have you started adding calmag?
first log, first coco, first success?
Thanks vaped. Its always nice when they are green!
Justso i did quit my tap completely. I set up an R/O unit and they are getting that exclusively with calmag in the nute regimen. Seems to be working. The early troubles i had, i have attributed to UNDERfeeding of all things.
I have heard powerplant and NL can be hungry. Its true.

well things are taking a bit longer than i expected. Not the growth, which is taking off, and crowding the veg closet, but the flwr setup and prep. Last night i pre-watered the 2 gallon pots with about 1 gallon of calmag and R/O water Ph'ed to 6.0.
Today i plan on transplanting and will add pics when it happens. Also I ran out of Canna Coco and neither hydro shop in this new town sell any canna products. So i had to fill a handful of pots with B'cuzz. This new coco is super fine ground. Wish i had all canna, but a forced experiment is not always a bad thing. On most of the pots i added a layer of hygromite lava rock on the very bottom to help increase drainage and also to prevent too much compaction.
Lastly a word on the Darkroom tents...NOT LIGHTPROOF! Zippers leak, and their are hundreds of pin prick size holes throughout the whole thing. I am slightly disgruntled that i now need to turn the room the tent is in, into a darkroom. Pain in my elbow...
