Size of clone starter

Hey all,

Ok, I know that people having difficulty cloning at first isn't anything new here...I had a nice female that was taken down a while ago, I put her back into veg so I could get some clones from her. By the time I knew that it was a good one it was too far into flowering to clone, it also didn't have any branches adequate for this. Just the long ones with big leaves on the ends, that was it. I tried it anyways, but they died of course.

This one that was vegging again had a small branch coming from the base, it was about 2" long with a few nodes on it.

My question is, does it matter how long/big these are in order to successfully clone them? I tried it anyways, its in the humidity dome right now, not sure what it will do. Just was curious if anyone else has had any luck with this. Also, is there a rough timeline on when you will notice if its taken or not? Like without digging around looking for roots?
