Does the breeder have references? Does the dog come with a health/genetic guarantee?
WATCH OUT for puppy mill dogs. They are often from inferior stock, and may carry traits like hip dysplasia that conscientious breeders screen for, as well as potentially having been weaned too young or poorly socialized. I have a friend who had an issue with his first AB (bad hips, costing him hundreds of dollars a year just to keep her on meds, and she may need surgery soon, at only 3 years old), but the same guy had a good experience with another AB breeder from Alabama in terms of health of pups- he had 4 pups shipped for himself and his friends, and they are all very healthy beautiful dogs now.
Just be warned.
FYI a Dogo Argentino is a very intelligent dog but one of the few breeds that is still used for dog fighting and will be a challenge. I hope your friend understands how much time they need and isn't just buying it because it is bad ass. That's how those animals end up in shelters. If you want a dog that has a fierce look but is more a companion/watch dog, look at bullies or other mastiff breeds such as the Bordeaux.
Have you checked Petfinder? Enter 'bulldog' or 'mastiff' as search term.

I have a coupon for a free case of Vodka with the next purchase of a Russian wife.

lol..
serious, dont send money til you get dog, INTERNET IS FULL OF SCAMS, BE VERY VERY CAREFUL..
i've bought a cornsnake online. i didn't have any problems. it's obviously not a dog though. how much is he charging for the dog+shipping? it might be close to cheaper if not cheaper to look locally. what is the country of origin for the dog aka where is your friend sending the money to? at least paypal covers your buddy up to $2000 if he gets ripped off.
like stinky said, do some research. make sure they have a warranty for health and genetics.

Thank you for all of your input!
Stinky- I just got off the phone with him and he reassured me that he will beable to properly care for the dog, and it comes with a warrenty for health and genetics.
Headshake- He considered buying local and for whatever reasons has ruled it out, he is sending the money to California and said it will cost 2,000 or so for the dog and 300ish for the plane ticket. The dog arrives Saturday.
