10/14 light cycle?

First of all this is my first grow and I did 18/6 for about a week and then 12/12 from there all using 2700K CFLs. This is a small grow in limited space anyway and I really dont have as much time as I was anticipating to finish the grow. Right now its been about 2.5 weeks since I started 12/12 and also the plants seem to be growing pretty slowly compared to other grow logs but I think that is from overwatering. Anyway, I've heard of a very few people using a 10/14 light cycle (10 hours light) for flowering and I cannot remember exactly why they did this but I'm wondering if this would speed up the time til harvest and what the negative effects would be.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Dont think your going to speed up harvest time by shifting you light schedule... Keep it simple bro... Run an 18/6 for veg and a 12/12 for bloom.... dont fluxuate that light schedule anymore than need be.. or hermy central......d

I would assume that it would grow less each day due to less light

the dark period just signals the genetics within the plant to start flowering

less light = less product

Keep that in mind

Some people do 13/11 but that's very rare

It is done, but rarely. It works, but not dramatically. Your yield calculation is based on the amount of time under light received- less light means less yield. Your call. Check for light leaks and withhold N or it don' mean diddly.

Thanks guys. I knew it would result in decreased yield but I was thinking that it would be better to finish than to not finish at all. But does changing the light cycle around really create herms? Is that from stress or is the likelihood of getting a herm something that is predetermined by the seed like getting a male vs female?

I think its both

There is probably a genetic factor in determining the ease of hermie-ing

Hermy-ing is probably due to stressful conditions in nature that might help its chances of survival by self pollinating

Hemies come from plants that are genetically predisposed to herm under X conditions. Some plants herm if you look at them cross-eyed and stick out your tongue. Some require severe chemical manipulation to throw nanners. It's a whole scale. You have to know how much stress your plants can take, and stay beneath that level.
