I quit smoking and now I can't focus...

I don't know if this is the right forum for this, but I recently quit smoking so that I could pass a drug test for a job that I am trying to get and now I can't focus. I have been smoking on a daily basis for about 4 years and this is the first time that I have stopped. I am in school, and up until this point I have made pretty good grades (A's and B's), but now that I have stopped smoking, I just can't seem to focus on my work anymore. Has this ever happened to anyone or do you all have any advice for what I could do to help (other than resume smoking)?

Howie, Hello, Give this a try.... Get to bed a little earlier than usual, I don't know if your sleep pattern has changed since quitting, and this may have a factor in your inattentativeness ( wow that was a mouth full). After a full day of classes, try to make time to get some exercise in. I mean really work up a good sweat. After your workout, try 5-10 minutes of meditation. I dont mean the OOHHMMMMM stuff just sit quietly, empty your head of everything, and if you do think of anything concentrate on your breathing. Slowly in thru the nose and out thru the mouth. Do this, NO MIND thing for as long as you can stand it but not over 20 minutes of it. After a few days you should get your focus back. Now grab the stone from my hand grasshopper :)

It should come back relatively quickly. Cannabis is not a strong drug, but it *is* still a drug. Someone who uses it daily for as long as you have will no doubt experience some symptoms like this if he stops. It doesn't always happen, but it is certainly possible. It's no different then if someone got used to coffee every day for years and years, and then all the sudden has to stop cold turkey. The change of habit alone (apart from the drug effects) can cause attention and focus problems... then when you add in the drug effects, it can actually be a bit of a problem.

Like I said, it shouldn't last long though. Just try to keep your mind on what's going on around you as best you can, not wondering off into your own thoughts.
