I feel a lot of people initially get here trying to pass a drug test for employment. I hear so many stories about people abusing these systems and wonder why the topic of drug testing people on these systems never comes up. I'm sure there are many legitiment cases but I have personally seen people who could work try to collect and people who physically don't have limbs and still work. What do you think?
There's also a physchological side to this. I've seen people that are ok physically but phsychologically they're a mess. I prefer the government takes a compassionate direction with dealing with people on welfare. Try and help them out and find them something that they would actually enjoy doing to motivate them to become self sufficient again. I'm not a big fan of drug testing anybody unless they have reasonable suspicion. Drug testing is clearly a violation of your civil rights unless done so when there is reasonable suspicion and the suspect's actions could harm someone else.
There is ZERO reason to drug test anyone. EVER! Ingesting substances themselves should NEVER be a crime. Otherwise you're presuming guilt and that's (supposed to be) unconstitutional. The illegal actions resulting from using and abusing substances (including food and caffeine) is the only thing an actual crime can and should result from. Like fraud or assult. With that said, even intoxication has been made illegal. And it just should not be. The laws that were designed to protect us from eachother have been warped and twisted to keep undesireable behavior out of public view. To protect the children of course. ;)
There are too many laws used to control and definitely not enough freedom. Every law that exists to legislate morality and "correct" behavior are unconstitutional, IMO and should be striken from the books. Only laws that protect people from the direct harm of other people's actions should be enforced.

Gorilla's Gal; I think that is a basic problem with our society. People think that if you can walk and talk you should work! Frankly, working is much better than living with the alternative, if you can!
Some people need mmj just to get to work and out the door! Others, to get out of bed. The drug testing one, my hat is off to them, who can and are able to work. It makes life much more fun and enjoyable! That would be my :twocents::twocents:

Yes JG I am for driving while intoxicated. I know that's a difficult idea to grasp in a society such as the US. I believe you should only be held accountable for the results of your actions (ie unsafe driving) not what might happen. I know in our overprotected society that it's horrible to not want to stop needless death by keeping people that "could" possibly hurt someone in jail. But really by putting someone in jail or fining the crap out of them, just for DWI is a waste of time. The key is education and punishment for dangerous behavior. Unless they are doing something else like speeding, running red lights, or other unsafe driving behavior they aren't really posing a risk to anyone. Whether people like it or not there are a group of responsible people out there that can manage to DWI safely or refuse to DWI at all. By randomly targeting anyone who may be over the legal limit everyone in society must consent to being stopped for no reason other than driving through that checkpoint. Papers please!:rasta: All in the name of protecting me from the possibility one of those people does something dumb while driving. But what about all the other people that wouldn't have done anything and gotten home just fine? Should they all be penalized for driving home safely albeit intoxicated? I don't think they should. I shouldn't have to be randomly stopped in the street for the cops to determine if I'm fit to drive. If I'm not they should see that as I am driving.
If cops spent more time pulling the guy over that's weaving in and out of traffic at 75 instead of the guy driving safely at 80 the roads would be much safer. Of course cops would actually have to work and catch the sharks instead of just netting some herring and cops don't like to work that hard. Besides it's all about the numbers. More people caught more people to pay fines. Less police needed to catch more "criminals" $$$. Budgets are getting busted all over the place you think LEO's are going to go for downsizing or pay cuts? NOT!
The public intoxication is the same thing. If you can get drunk and still be a reasonable person you have every right to be intoxicated in public. If you become the worlds biggest ass and abuse people when you're drunk then you should be held accountable for that not just being drunk. I think people who yell on cell phones in public should get a disturbing the peace ticket. And people who use a cell and drive either text or voice should get a ticket if they are driving unsafely. I believe that as long as you aren't endangering public safety or welfare you should be allowed to do what ever you want. It's a radical idea called freedom. I know it's hard to imagine living life by your own choices and actions instead of being fed everything and blaming everyone else. Freedom really isn't for everyone. A lot of people find comfort in the structure of the system. It makes them feel as though someone else cares about what happens to them. People like me are smothered by it. Of course this is all just my opinion.

I too believe the drunk driving laws are getting ridiculous. And again the feds are to blame for a lot of it. They tie there money to keeping the states under control.
If you have an accident while drinking, absolutely through the book at them. If they kill someone while they're drinking and driving give them the death penalty. If your pulled over for weaving and found to be drinking, impound the car for 24 hours and fine the driver. I'm more concerned with the people driving under legal prescription drugs than anything else.
Sorry folks, this is getting way off topic- can we please leave alcohol discussion out of it?
Furthermore remember that there are among our members individuals suffering life-long aftereffects of automobile accidents caused by intoxicated drivers who are here to find painkillers for dealing with their injuries.
I'm asking that we be sensitive to that, and demanding that we do not discuss alcohol outside the medical forum where treatment of alcoholism through cannabis use is tolerated.

Mental illness is as debilitating as any physical illness-with or without limbs! The idea of passing a drug test in my opinion is to allow one to be employed! Just because you can't see a person's illness, doesn't mean it isn't there. I can see where one might be annoyed by a person needing to pass a drug test. If you suspect these people are just stoners trying to 'work the system' and abuse ours. Ask them. I often see those threads and seldom open them. Why, doesn't apply to me anymore. If it did, I'd be there daily. I'd do anything to be able to work again (short of a needless barbaric surgery-which I have put off so long, it may not even be an option any more).Quote:

Since, this is a medical use sight, I think if someone 'thinks' they have a problem they do. Even if it isn't exactly what their question is. It is a start for them, to find out what their problem is. Life is a daily growing and learning process.
Some people thrive by the attention they get from illness, whether real or perceived. The truth is, they are, just not where they think. The illness would be the need for negatively hooking people into giving them attention for something that doesn't exist! Therefore, needs a psychiatrist. But, they have to come to that conclusion. I know a 68 year old that has been a victim of life prior to birth and milks every little ache and pain. Won't touch most prescribed medicine (unless it is a public issue-for attention) or try something like cannabis, which is very needed. I find that the issue.
You seldom find people that are regulars in the Forum asking for 'drug test' help. Because, they know what to do. And when they share the results, it is for the benefit of others that are still able to push their bodies to work. Once, you have a major injury or the body fails-it changes how you view a lot of things. And you have more time to think about it too! PR:hippy:
I just re-read your quote again and I think I just missed the whole issue. YOu are actually talking about able bodied people that are 'trying to collect' and work to screw the system? :wtf: Is that it? If so, I have nothing to say, because it just screws us all! And that is why so many people here have so much trouble getting benefits they paid for. PR :(
