an amatuer question regarding my plant.

Ok. I will ask (perhaps the first of several) very stupid questions about the plant I have (which is attached below). I must state that I am completely new to this; and by completely I of course mean that I know absolutely fuck all about cannabis growing. But, come on, you know you secretly love telling amateur's just how wrong/ inexperienced and stupid they are....right?

Anyway, a friend of mine gave me one of his seedlings. I had no plan to grow
anything, but, what the hell.It seemed quite fun. What with th joy of plant ownership and all.
As well as the eventual ability to roll up the said plant and smoke it.

So, I put the seedling in a pot of soil. I put the pot on my balcony. It was the
middle of winter here (Australia) and pretty cold. I didn't expect it to grow
through a freezing winter. But it did. It is now getting warmer, and this plant is a little over a month and a half old.
My question is: Does this plant seem 'right'? Looking at other pictures of plants of a similiar age, mine just seems...squat. It is only about 5 inches tall. And not enthusiastic about developing in height and typically marijuana-shaped leaves. I assume this is weather related? It is certainley getting warmer at the moment, though.

Also, is there any way of 'forcing' and outdoor plant to flower? (Obviously this
can be done with an indoor plant, what with simply cutting back light cycles
etc... )
I know that outdoor plants typically flower when the sunlit-days start to get
shorter. However, I don't want to wait that long, simply because the end of
summer is about 4 and half months away, and I am worried that by that time it will have grown so large that
a) My neighbors will see it, take it, smoke it.
Or
b) My neighbors will see it, tell the police; they
will take it, smoke it, and also arrest me.

So....thats my unnecesarily long question about my little, odd, plant.

That is the strangest looking MJ plant I've ever seen. I am no expert, and it sounds like it's been through some rough times, but it hardly resembles a marijuana plant, if I'm honest.

Did your friend just give you a seed or did you see this come off his plants or what?

Hopefully someone else chimes in here but I almost suspect you've been pranked.

Looks just like a tomato plant. :)

On the off chance that it isn't, make some clones.

It is unrecognizable as cannabis so, you could grow it anywhere without fear of ripoffs or busts.
That would be a very good thing.:D

Hmm, well he ordered seads from the internet, and a bunch of typical MJ looking seedling's appeared- and he subsequently gave me one (about two inches high) in a pot. I have friends that grow, so I know it definatley looked like a baby MJ plant.

I have to say though, if I have been nurturing a tomato tree or something (instead of cannabis) for a month and a half, I am going to be mighty pissed. hmmm.

That is a nice tomato plant! I think you should keep it. Just don't water it quite so much, and it wants a bit of plant food, mixed up weak. As a bonus, tomato plants are EXCELLENT for hiding cannabis plants if you put them very close together. You can even hang little red-painted Christmas tree balls on them so they look even MORE like a big bunch of tomato bushes! Starting your tomatoes before your pot is a good idea, so the tomatoes have a chance to get big for the pot to hide behind. I have seen some growers plant one of each species in the same tomato cage, and pictures taken from more than a few feet away show nothing but a vegetable patch!

Every potted plant, of any species, that you grow is one step closer to becoming a great ganja farmer. Keep it up, and try a new set of seeds... perhaps from an actual baggie of weed so you are 100% certain that they are pot.
And never re-use soil, because you can get straggler seeds from whatever had been in there before. I bet that's what happened.

Thank you for this reply. Actually, I think I will keep it- not being used to gardening in any form, I found it wierdly fascinating watching a tiny plant grow every day. Oddly calming...
And, just because it didn't turn out to be ganja doesn't mean I should abandon it, I guess. Much like having kids- just because they don't turn out how you expect, doesn't mean you don't care about them. Ha ha. And odd turn of events.

I will however, also try actual MJ growing, just, as you say, perhaps with seeds from a stash rather than very unreliable internet ordering. Oh well.
