too tall to soon
hi peeps hope i am posting in the right part of the forum here.
i have a question about the height of my plant/s, they are 3 week into flowering and some are already 44 inches high but soon i will not be able to move my lights any higher.they are growing like rockets.
i started flowering them as soon as they reached 12 inches high from the top of the soil under a 600w HPS light. they are Ashanti II Sensimilia but i dont know if i have done something wrong cos last time i grew them they were a lot smaller. any help or advice would be great. i have included a pic below so you can see why they look like. thanks

Are you starting from clone or seed? Did you put them into flowering at the same number of weeks from germination? I would try making a clone off a few branches that haven't really budded yet, and put them at 12/12 immediately once they're rooted. That has worked for me under cfls, although the bloom was weak. ( I couldn't really take care of them properly due to my parents )

they are all clones and are already 3 weeks into flowering (3 weeks today). i have just had to raise the light another 2 inches and it seems i have to raise the light about 2 - 3 inches everyday now but soon im gonna run out of room for raising the lights.
what i am worried about is that the tops will get the light when its fully budding but the lower branches wont get enough. personally i think they are too tall for the age they are but i cant see why. i did use large long mirrors placed across the tops of all the puts facing upwards and was wondering is that may have caused this dilema. i 'was' going to chop them down a bit but i think we all know that would be stupid so i may even bend them in the tall places as to save the top buds. i just cant figure out why they have grown so tall so soon and they still have another 5 - 6 weeks to go :(

They should top out soon at around week 4 to 5 of flower depending on strain.

they are Ashanti II (Sensi)
if they are growing at around 2 - 3 inches a day which they are then i guess they will grow at least another 1.5ft lol not sure if i can raise my light any further so i may bend the tops soon, i topped all of them one week into flowering (a) to get 2 nice big top buds and (b) to help stop them from growing too tall. im not going to chop anything though cos i dont want to shock them now as they are doing so well (appart from the height)

I would go ahead and pull the to main stalks as horizontal as possible while you are still that early in flower. Save you the thought of burning your buds late in flower, and will concentrate more light on more buds..You will still come out with same yield or maybe even more!!

omfg i cant believe this, what rotten luck ive had. i started 4 seeds about 6 - 7 months ago, over a period of months i took clones from each and flowered them and one by one they turned out to be males eccept finally the last. ok i just had a really close look and some of those tall plants not only have super looking buds but also the dreaded male sacks appearing in a couple of places
i know once you see those its time to kill them off but what crappy luck ive had :( i ripped off the ones i see but i think we all know how persistant they can be and will soon return in multitudes. trust me to get the hermaphrodite.
inquirery: if i let it continue and it does produce seeds will the seeds also be a hermaphrodite?
This is really odd and cant figure this out, im baffled??? 3 weeks ago i finnished a small crop from the same clone mother and there were no signs of male sacks on those and these clones were from tha same plant but these have the male sacks, now thats weird.
i wonder if there is a way to stop them from producing sacks :D

Check for light leaks that may be the cause. Yes she will produce seeds now but they are what is called feminized. Meaning that those seeds will only produce females. So save them.

i think it was light leaks as there is a gap at the bottom of the cuppboard door about 1.5 inches high due to the removal of flooring so you are probably right.
also early in the mornings about an hour b4 the 600w light comes on i open the cuppboard to put another few small clones in there to help get them going faster but i have always made sure the roo lights were on 'very low' using my dimmer switch. I have learnt my lesson now the hard way.
it is a shame really because these plants were doing so well as you can see from the pic in the first post.
what are the chances of the seeds becoming hermaphrodite too?
oh and one last question, what does the pre-flower stage mean?
i just waited for my clones to reach a healthy 12 inches high and then just moved them from 18/6 to 12/12 then hoped for the best. thanks

Hey not all is lost here cheer up, yeah you grew some weed that is going to have some seeds in it.
First off I have a feeling this grow is for personal use so so what if it has seeds. YOU GREW IT:thumbsup:, It may have cost you some cash for the setup but much cheaper and probably better than on the street:thumbsup: Yeah your going to have seeds but this has very little effect on potency:thumbsup: And finally those seeds are valuable as I said in an earlier post when a plant becomes a hermaphrodite and produces its own seeds they are feminized due the the genes. So if you still let her go to completion and save the seeds, those seeds will only produce female plants the hermaphrodite was caused by the light leaks not genetics.
