New grower here..

I have a few questions that I would love answered. I have 4 remaining plants growing outside - I destroyed 3 plants when I realized they were male and now have 4 left. One of them, I believe, is a Hermaphrodite - it looked female, but then began forming "balls" and then pollen. Now that plant is full of seeds - are they any good to keep and plant, or should I just toss it all in the burn barrell? The rest of the plants and very small. I try to sex them and believe they are female, my question on this is...do male plants have those white hairs on them, or do only female plants? I think these plants may be hermies as well - starting to see small "balls" forming (but these aren't banana shaped as they were described on here), but not that many. Is it a female plant that was pollinated? A lot of my friends are complaining this year of small (only 1 foot high or more) plants, all of them grown outdoors. Do you think the weather conditions has caused this problem? I should go attach pictures to make this easier, eh? Any help would be very much appreciated. The last time I grew plants, only One was female (out of 3), and it was nice. With more plants this time, I am more confused. Thanks!

Well, after reading all the info you wonderful people posted on here to other's not knowing the sex of their plants, I went out and looked closely at the remaining 4 plants. 2 of them DO have white hairs and the "balls" I observed are more "tear dropped shaped" than round, so I am pretty sure those are females (I'm charging camera now to take pics tomorrow). The others have NO hairs, but have a lot of seeds now. I know that my females have been pollinated, as I see the seeds on them. The ones I pulled out months ago, were MUCH bigger than the remaining ones, I could tell right away they were males, I don't know why I didn't realize the two I still have were males until now...maybe cause they are so small, and were slower to show thier sex?? Oh well, better luck next year. Does anyone think the seeds that are on the male plants will be all male plants next year? Should I keep any of the seeds from these plants? Thank you! seeds on a male plant?

I'm not sure what you mean so I'll answer your question from two angles:

Males do not produce seeds, but rather pollen sacks that look like a pair of male genitalia (what a coincidence eh?).

If your females were pollinated by males, and not self pollinated (hermies), then your seeds will be both male and female. If it was self pollinated then your seeds will be hermie (they will have the ability to contain both sexes.) and you risk the chance of creating another hermie and self pollinating again.

Thanks for answering - I really appreciated it. The plants that have a lot of seeds on them do not have any white hairs on them either (so that's why I thought they were male). When I take the seeds off these plants, I also see yellow pollen on my finger and on the plant where there are no seeds..would this be a hemie?

I would have to see pictures since I'm not even honestly sure if you have a female, but yellow pollen is an indicator of a male part. You either have a hermie or a male.

I'll take pictures tomorrow -as it's too dark now to do so. I took the top off of one of the so-called-male plants and am cleaning the seeds out of it now. I am finding empty sacks where no seeds are, but they still contain some pollen (when you roll it between your fingers). Here are some pictures taken about 3 weeks ago - no sign of hairs, but I found all pollen sacks. I decided (stupidly) to let it continue to grow. Now this plant is covered in seeds. Also, my remaining (small) females are now producing seeds as well. These "females" I do see the white hairs. None on the ones that are loaded with seeds. Thanks again!:thumbsup:
P.S. Sorry the pictures aren't so clear, if I get any closer they are fuzzy pics.

pictures are blurry but that looks like a straight up male plant. Not a female at all, at least from what I can see.
