I would've liked to see more of the show, but my roommate and his friends were playing their stupid vampire game in the room with the TV. The only negative connection Obama has that's worth bringing up is the Jeremiah Wright one, and even then their relationship is understandable.

The church had a reputation for activism and working in the community, and Obama has said this is the main reason he joined it. The main sermon that all those clips are from is his speech right after 9/11, although if you read the whole thing, it's a bit more understandable. But if you consider the events of that week, it's definitely conceivable that this sermon was the exception to the rule and that Obama missed it.Quote:

First, this senate resolution didn't actually accomplish anything, and it wasn't necessary for him to vote on it. Second, he was campaigning then, and extremely busy, and third, the MoveOn people helped his campaign and I doubt he wanted to throw them under the bus. John McCain did the same thing with those ridiculous southern preachers.Quote:

I admit, his stammering got to me a little, but he mostly did that on the numerous occasions where Bill was interrupting him. I think we can all forgive a few quirks though.Quote:

Jesus. Everyone wants to complain about their candidate being attacked unfairly, and then they turn around and try to dig up dirt and make connections to people who have done something wrong. I know plenty of people who have done dumb things- does that make me a bad person?
As far as Wright goes- Do you honestly think that there is a logical connection between Obamas ideals and some half-thought idiotic spewings? Come on, let's have some respect and be mature.
Ayers- The guy was a professor and someone who worked with Obama to clean up Chicago. His past does not affect Obama. Stop trying to assosciate flimsy relationships, please.
MoveOn- Come on.
Do you want an election about the issues? Or would you rather have a tabloid election? Change starts with you, and you're perpetuating the cycle.
This was the one segment I most wanted to see.
I think Obama did a good job on this one. He has devoted his life to working on solving problems for people, and any time you get involved with groups with a PURPOSE, you are going to have some extreme elements mixed in with the more moderate ones.
I know that is defnitiely true in my own experience. I've done work with environemental groups who were 99% composed of people who just have a concern for their environemnt and want to get something done about it in a peaceful and constructive way. But there are always a few nutjob radicals in the mix as well. It sucks when you get stuck with the guilt by association to someone who you really have nothing in common with at all. Does that mean you should abandon the work you want to do just because some wacko also supports the same cause?
I think Obama made a good point that he would not slam O'Reilly with the guilt by association to all the irrational nutjobs that Fox news has given voice to, if O'Reilly would not slam him for assocaition to Daily Kos. It's a valid point. Everyone can be "linked" to people they disgree with through flimsy "associations."
