Ok. So i was reading this months issue of Skunk Magazine and "The Rev" states that he hates HPS lighting because of how hot it gets and that they can cause burning and stretching and that MH is a lot better because it matches the plants needs more. What does everyone think about this. Ive been looking for an HPS for awhile and i feel like i should start looking for an MH system.
You want to grow fat buds? Then you need lumens lumens lumens! It is a known fact that watt for watt HPS puts out more lumens than MH. Not only that but it is naturally redder on the color spectrum than MH which is important for flowering.Quote:

You want some stretching in flowering. Taller plants = more bud. Unless you have a horrible ugly gangly lanky plant in vegetative state then I don't think you have to worry about stretch being a problem. Just keep the light as close to the tops of the canopy without bringing the temps above 85 degrees (78 is my ideal temperature).
So what I guess I'm saying is that in my opinion "The Rev" is complaining about something not so important. If your room is set up with proper ventilation then heat will never be an issue. So take advantage of HPS and all the lumens that come with it. Lumens = fat buds

Yes, HPS causes stretching. So what? If that scares you, put them under blue light for the first 2 weeks of flower. Problem is, blue light doesn't give as dense buds. HPS is ideal for that.
I find that when I've flowered plants as newly-rooted clones, I LIKE to see some stretch at the start of flower, to give the buds space to develop without getting so bunched up that there is little air movement around them.
Start looking for an MH system anyway, for your vegging plants and mothers. Don't skimp onf the bulb; hort blue is the best lamp I've ever used.
If you run 1000w of HPS in flower, a 400w MH for veg is a good size. Your ratio should be around 1:3 but doesn't have to be exact.
Thanks Stinky and Daihashi. It is funny. But i agree with you guys, im sure an HPS is the best way to go. I wonder what his real beef of HPS and whats so amazing with his grows with MH? No stinky I dont run 1000k, if anything at this point i could get a 250w with air cooling in my Homebox xs. Even though i wish i could run a 600 watt:cool: What do you think?
