help! how can my plants benefit from my HPS, pics!
Hi guys,
I have a small problem with my plants right now...
I started off with 11 plants during my veg cycle, thinking i would get like 5-6 females... just switched the lights to 12/12 about a week ago and now i ended up with 10 out of 11 plants being females!! this is great news but I am having trouble fitting them all comfortably under my 400 HPS. and im worried that they will run out of space as they continue flowering
4 of the plants have been vegging for 2 months and the others for less... so the plants are all different sizes.
My question is this:how far could I place the plants without them overlapping so that they would benefit (to the max) from the light... in square meters?
They are growing in the corner of a big room, the corner walls are painted white....
Here are a few pics of the set up.

If you have a separate dark room?...you can put half of them in there and rotate each half every twelve hours during the flowering (60+ days) cycle.
It's a lot of work;, but I did that for 13 females under a 400 watt HID. It doubled my yield...
Only other choice is to rotate plants under the light, daily.

Your plants don't look to happy in the second picture. Looks like your getting enough light. Plus i'd use a smaller watt HPS for veg. I'd keep your 400 HPS for some flower. Any professional growers want to help this guy out? I always grow about three plants, I yield 37 to 58 grams per plant. One HPS and a couple CFLs on the lower it. Try using reverse tinfoil and creating a reflection to the underside of your leafs? Maybe more light? Just a word of advice for some thing I have tried. Good luck man. Nice out that female outcome, pimping that MMJ.

hey,
thanks for the advice, but i dont really want to rotate them.. 1- i dont have another place to put them and 2- keeping the light on 24 hours doesnt really seem like an ideal option for me since i want the grow room to have a chance to cool down at night.
but i do rotate their placement sometimes.. so different areas are exposed.
as for the foil on the underside... maybe i could try that...
but i was just wondering if not placing the plants directly under the light would be a problem, and how far away from the light can they be.
and by the way, im a girl =)
thanks for the advice tho

They look like your ventilation is inadequate. That will hurt you right there.
For efficiency, train them in the shape of a stadium so that the tall ones are around the edges and the short ones are right under the lamp, as close as you can get them without signs of heat stress.

Yeah that heat will get ya! on my first grow i started 8 and ended with 4 females and then one of them went herm. And on my last grow i still came out with a hermi! Fix the vents and keep em all cuz ya never know. I guess the herms in my case may be cuz im forced to use bag seed but i know the 400hps for veg doesnt help... Did you use the 400 for veg too? Thats a great ratio you got! Whats your secret?

Damn that is such a good idea! I was thinking just get one of those big clothes hanger carts, with the wheels, you see at clothing stores and just hang your light on there. seperate the room and then all you gotta do is roll the cart back in forth. To me that would seem easier than moving all the plant and one side of your room will always be cool. get better vents so you wont have to worry about that anyway. I cant help ya with leaving the light on all the time though. Seems cool but i havent tried it yet so im sure its not as easy as i think...

Get a few buckets. Turn them upside down and place them around lamp's radius. Set some of the plants on the buckets so they are above the main canopy. That way, the higher plants get all the light that is escaping from the sides.
Rotate the plants up and down every week or so.

sorry to be off topic but SF Gurilla's signature is pretty funny..

LST them, and make sure they each have there own pot to grow in. I cant think of an easier way then to make them grow so each one gets good light, like stated above make sure the outer ones grow taller, maybe u could lst inner plants and leave the out side ones to grow on there own.
