I have a serious question regarding the current issue of Poland.
I would like to know how many people in these forums would have a problem with Russia placing any kind of missile within close range of thier borders ?

Took a little too long editing so I'm posting my reason for my choice.
I grew up in England during the 60's and 70's and anyone who did will remember the "Four minute warning" , this was supposedly the time it would take from a launch to impact, enough time to boil an egg maybe. :D
I was facinated by the golfball shaped structures dotting the east coast of England , they were our early warning stations and were constantly monitoring the (evil :wtf:) Russians, they were where our alert would come from.
In the 4 minutes you had you were supposed to stay indoors and seek shelter , anyone who has seen these public information ads for "In The Event Of A Nuclear Strike" will know how completely insane they were.
YouTube - Duck and Cover
I am now in my 40's and am convinced that mankind is insane and will eventually bring about it's own end.
I've had a brilliant 40 plus years and I have enjoyed so many experiences that if the insane leaders of the various countries decided to start pushing buttons I wouldn't be in the least bit bothered.
Methinks this thread may get a sticky
Or
Maybe they'll just nuke it :D
Don't think it would really matter that much. They can hit any country on the planet now so they don't have to be next door neighbors.
This is a missile defense system for Europe. Russia was invited to participate in and monitor the installation but refused.
As for the poximity, our Alaskan border isn't that far away and like killerweed420 stated, for the superpowers of the world distance isn't really a factor anymore.
If ya think this is bad having this system in Poland just wait; with recent events in Georgia I'm sure countries like the Ukraine will be moving towards closer ties to the west. That'll really piss of the Kremlin.
Have a good one!
It wouldn't matter either way. Defense is for defense so......... as long as we don't have any plans to attack Russia we should be straight.
seeing as how Russia could attack us from where they stand; I'd have to say I'd have no more problem with them setting up a defense missile battery next to us anymore than I'd have a problem with them setting one up on their own soil.
our problem is lack of trust in russians and old feelings from both sides, we just need to wait a generation or so perhaps more to have things back to normal.
they want their share of the power, and even if we were them we wouldnt want to "follow" america as 2nd in command.
we went to their backyard and planted missiles, if they can do it, well i dont see why they shouldnt do the same to us. after all its for defense not offense.
maybe we go to another coldwar or maybe we can sit down and talk like good children [my butt, that will never happen!]
Nothing wrong with defense weapons other than the huge waste of money. But if it helps deter an invasion then its money well spent. Russia hit Georgia because we were arming them and Putin(still the real power) didn't want Georgia to get to organized. All because they fear what happens when western civilization becomes popular in there neck of the woods.
Sorry but that statement is completely untrue.Quote:

Yeah but Ossetia was part of Georgia. It tried to break away and join Russia again. Its really a mess in the area. Almost another middle east.
