sunleaves TDS/EC meter
Hello all!
I've been getting decent results as-of-late and would like to know EXACTLY what ppm my nutrient level is at. I bought the Sunleaves TDS Expert Plus (STEP500) a while back and still am unable to read it properly. I looked in the manual, http://www.sunleaves.com/senddoc.asp?id={E9A56762-1A4C-41E7-AF5A-90BB81A02AFA} , but I am still confused. I would like my plants to be around 900 PPM during veg (now). Can anyone assist?
Thanks!

If you trust that the unit is still calibrated, set the mode to TDS/KCI and the reading will be in PPM, up to 1000, then the X10 indicator will show with a 3 digit #, just add a zero. As far as I can tell from the manual.
Good luck:thumbsup:

AWESOMELY QUICK REPLY!!!! THANKS!!!!!!!!
I've been reading the three PPM readings: KCl, 442, and NaCl and averaging them to find my estimated PPM. Since the ppm are different on each reading, I've been wondering about this on a N-P-K basis. I'm using latewoods GH 3-part nute sched, but am getting slight browning/yellowing of the bottom leaves and would like to know exactly what my ppm is, instead of looking at six total readings.... 442 is now at 1100, yet KCl and NaCl hover around 800. TDS reads around 1400.
Wish I had an EC stick....

The unit you have is both, but PPM is a TDS reading

Instead of tearing this thread up, can we talk on yahoo? I have my username posted.
I was referring to the EC stick that spits out an EC only reading. They were like 50 bucks more!

Thanks, but no, and I don't really know much more than what was stated so far, and I got that from the link you gave.
It did help me though, my TDS calibration was way off, so thanks for your help.:D

Not a problem. Thank you for your input, as it's got me thinking! If anyone else has any input, feel free to post until the problem is solved :hippy:

Found this in another thread.... is it saying that a 442 reading of 1400 or an NaCl reading of 750 means the PPM is at 1500? If so, please reply quickly or the herb committee will charge me with murder!!!
Electrical Conductivity (EC) Parts Per Million (PPM)
miliSiemens (mS) microSiemens (mS) NaCl Conversion 442 Conversion
1.0 1000 = 500 ppm 700 ppm
1.5 1500 = 750 ppm 1050 ppm
2.0 2000 = 1000 ppm 1400 ppm
2.5 2500 = 1250 ppm 1750 ppm
3.0 3000 = 1500 ppm 2100 ppm

K here you go:
The three different settings (442, KCI, etc) are diffent solution basis. For hydro we use KCI in EC and I think NaCL in ppm readings. TDS (ppm) is a non-linear formula for converting EC. So as such it;s just not as accurate but it doesn;t matter its all good.
