Hospital Gown required for Pre-employment test??
Has anyone run into this little bump in the road??
I was reading up tonight and I saw it mentioned a couple times that some testing locations will require you to change into a hospital gown in an effort to prevent people from concealing containers of urine and substituting it.
In my effort to be prepared for everything, I was wondering a few things about this:
1) Would you be required to take your underwear off? If not, no big deal. I can keep the QF in my undies. If so, then there's more of an issue. I have a belt that I can strap the QF to my leg, but I don't know if it'd be discrete because in my experience with hospital gowns you can kinda see through them and the back doesn't really close up all that well. Hopefully, one could just keep their undies on.
2) OK...I guess I only had one concern.
If anyone has any experience of having to change into a hospital gown or knows of anyone who has, please share!

Did you ever think that some companies are getting wise to subbing?? I gotta wonder how many got caught trying to sub. If you are subject to testing for any reason, then your best course of action is not to smoke at all, until you don't have to worry about random, or pre-employment testing anymore.

Haven't heard anything about wearing a gown. It wouldn't surprise me though if they started doing it. Just leave your underwear on. They have no authority to make you get naked.

From § 40.61 the DOT regulations:

Unfortunatley I read some where that the rules were changed as of 8/25/08 that all DOT tests after the 25th were going to have be observed. That has nothing to do with most of us, thank god. But this could work to our advantage. I think that observed piss tests are going to get to be too much trouble for them here in the future and they will try to switch to hair, which our lawyers have some good irefutable scientific evidence is discriminatory against blacks/asian/hispanic, and basically anyone with dark hair versus light colored hair due to the amount of melanin contained in the darker hair, retains thooc(SP) much better. Then they will either GIVE UP FN hurray!!! or go to saliva which has a much more reasonable detection time, like couple hrs to maybe 48 depending on a few factors, and maybe they would catch a few crack/methheads and leave pot smokers alone and in peace.It would be good to take an arrow from their quiver!!

Not true! § 40.63 and § 40.67 remain unchanged in the newly revised DOT regulations. Observed testing will still not be conducted without cause.

What obligates one to have a test governed by DOT guidelines rather than just a run-of-the-mill pre-employment standard test? Obviously, anyone with a CDL, but who else would require DOT standards? I'm going to be working for a firm (hopefully) that gets government contracts. Does any involvement with the government require DOT standards for testing?

The Omnibus Transportation Employee Testing Act, first enacted in 1991, requires drug and alcohol testing of safety-sensitive employees in aviation, trucking, railroads, mass transit, pipelines and other transportation-related industries.
To make the testing process easier, and to minimize mistakes, most other pre-emp U/A's model the testing protocols from the ones established by DOT.
