T12 lighting question ~

Hello everyone :D . I have a question about T12 4' tubes. My buddy was thinking about getting 2 fixtures and of course 4 bulbs at 40 watts each. Now my question is, does that mean he will be actually pulling 160 watts total? I was just thinking that just because they are 40watt bulbs doesn't actually mean you are really pulling that much electricity? Is this true? I was just wondering because of how much electricity will be really used.

Also, is 4, 4' T12 40 watt bulbs plenty for veg.? Or should i tell him to get another fixture for 6 bulbs total?

yea if its a 40w bulb it will consume 40 watts if you trying to figure cost try this


Watts (160) x Hours Used (18 hours a day?)
divided by 1000

x Cost per kilowatt-hour (say 10 cents <-varies depending on location and time of day) = Total Cost

about $9 a month
