Instead of College, I am going to buy my own land.
I feel like I need to change how this world lives, but I need to start with myself. I have a strong desire to buy my own land away from others(others being people who dislike what I do), and to grow my own food, medicine, and etc. Hopefully near some sort of water source, so I can fish for food as well.
I wish to eat what the land I live on can produce, not what canbe imported. I don't want food that comes from 1000's of miles away.
Anyways I feel I can accomplish this, and that I can be far more happy with my life. I am 18, and I wish to live a life closer to nature.
Currently I work at a dead end job for UPS. I just need some money so I can build my land. The food I produce will probably be sold to local markets for money as well. Along with w/e I produce.
I feel that I am wise enough to choose not to go to college but yet, at the same time I really want to. I might go there for agriculture or something of that nature.
Anyways, I was wondering if any of you knew farmers, or people who went from the urban life to, a more rural life(I think that is the right word). Any incite would be greatly appreciated.

You are completely wrong. At 18 you are working for one of the best employers in the country. with MORE than PLENTY of room to grow there. and s SHITLOAD of money to be made there also. think it over a little more there homie. :rastasmoke:
the idea you have would be great maybe when you're older and know what you're doing. but you have barely made it into the realy world. chill and smoke a blunt and think about
it.:rastasmoke:

My family left the city 14 years ago and never looked back. We bought a piece of property big enough that it is a forest around us, no neighbors in sight. We watch the wildlife, smoke bud, do whatever we want, we live a great life.

Living among nature is an amazingly different and rewarding lifestyle. I've gone up north to various cabins we've rented/visited/lived at with friends and family alike--every year for my entire life. Whether it be days, weeks, or months..there's just nothing like it. I love the north woods.
I hope to do what you're considering one day. You should really consider at least giving college a chance. You might like it more than you think. There's always after college. Having the opportunity to experience something like college isn't you want to completely disregard.
Still, I feel you man. If I had tons of money, I'd do exactly what you want to. Getting a house on a lake (preferably fairly secluded) is ideal. Just kicking back on your dock, looking up at the night sky. Beer to your left, bowl to your right. Ahhh, good times. Next weekend--first visit of to our cabin of the summer. Can't wait.

Definitely wouldn't have to worry about growing the very strong smelling strains!
Definitely look into college, if not for a degree then just for individual classes to learn about stuff...
Agriculture and/or horticulture, plumbing, electrician type stuff, auto mechanics, first aid, etc.
And learning different ways to generate your own electricity...
Even take some courses somewhere to learn about the natural vegetation and herbs, how to use them... some outdoor survival classes would teach you some of that stuff, as well as hunting. check it out.
There's a lot to learn about being truely self-sufficient, sadly we're not taught much of that through school or from our parents. They want us to work then so-called 9 to 5, make money... money money money... taxes, rules, etc. I know you want a simple free life, but you'll have to work hard for it as well... It's just that when you succeed, you should be much more rewarded from your efforts.

yes great dream but think seriously about college too, even if it does you no good in what you choose to do, it is still an amazing experience. Hell I had no life most of the time, before after or during college and it still was amazing! :D

Choice One: Go to college, excel in it, get good grades and pass those classes. Get a 9-5 job, work the next 10-15 years living, and paying off your college bills.... lead a life similar to 25% of the working class.
Choice two: Buy land (has to be at least 20 acres), plantm plant, plant.... and make enough money to pay off this land you buy by selling extra food from the crops.... cattle and chickens would be a good idea... 1 fat cow gives alot of meat (1/2 the weight of cow) build a somewhat make shift shelter and slowly improve/add on to it...
this is just what my imagination what some variables could be used, of course I wish it was that easy to do either.

I agree with ya sirbliss, and Greentoker that is probably what I will end up doing is going to college to learn about what it takes to live in nature, and stuff. Possibly meet a honey I can take along with me in my adventures. :D
When I eventually do find a piece of land though, it will be secluded like mmmgold was talking about. It will be powered by solar panels, and wind power. And I will feed my family with the food I grow, and treat there ailments with the medicines I can brew....... Anyways, good times it shall be.
I hope the best to all of you in living your dreams.
