Our Minds exist in a Separate Dimension..

I just started posting here today, though Ive been registed for awhile. The spirituality board seems to be a good place to share my theory on existence, consciousness, and life in general.

As you read this sentence, your brain is working to process the information. But what is actually happening inside of our skulls? Science talks of neurons and brain connections on a microscopic level, but does this explain the phenomenon of consciousness?

I do not believe that consciousness is a reaction of chemicals in the brain. If that is true, could we not theoretically reproduce this reaction in a test tube, in order to create a thinking, conscious being? No, I do not believe we could.

Crack a living persons skull open, rip the physically delicate brain and they die. But what is actually happening inside our skulls in order to create a conscious thought?

More importantly: How can a thought, a non-physical "object", exist in a purely physical 3-Dimensional Universe?

You cannot cut into someones head and find a thought. You cannot see a persons mind when there skull is opened up. But somehow, the mind exists.

Our physical bodies are bound to this 3-Dimensional universe. They are forced to obey all the laws that govern it: Gravity, force, energy, etc. But the boundaries on our minds seem limitless in comparison. We can literally imagine anything with our brain. These thoughts exist in our minds, but not physically in this universe.
I believe that our brains are a bridge to another dimension. You could search the ENTIRE universe and you would never come across a mind. That is because, in my belief, our minds exist in a dimension separate to our own. Our brains simply act as a connector, a waypoint, that allows us to tap into the astronomical power present in the dimension where minds exist.

A thought does not have any physical dimensions that are classifiable in our universe. Thus it must reside in a dimension of its own, a separate one in which our physical laws have no place. A non-physical mind or thought has no place in a completely physcial universe.

This is why I believe our minds exist in a dimension completely and utterly separate from our own. It is the only rational, logical way I can explain to myself how I can sit here and imagine anything.

I believe our minds are bound from this separate dimension to our own physical brains at the moment the sperm fertilizes the egg, and a zygote begins to develop. As our brains develop and grow, we can begin to work with the "mind" which we have access to.

When we die, our brains break the connection to the other dimension where our minds exist, and we return to the abyss. I compare dying with being very deep asleep: you don't know you're alive, who you are, or what you are. You don't know anything, because theres nothing to know.

Any thoughts on this theory of our minds being on a totally separate plane from our physical body?

Well... my thoughts about this subject are very like yours... in fact, TOO much alike... and thats why i ask you... did you think all of it by yourself? Or did you read something like that somewhere?

I tend to believe the process of thought is the greatest metaphysical difference from our physical substances. Thus, I agree that the realm of thought is beyond our understanding as we currently stand.

The forces that suppress these freedoms of thought (advertisements, censorship, politics and business, etc) ultimately take the mind by force. Therefore, people fail to make the right decisions and lose their dignity and love for themselves, the pattern continues. All you need to do is turn on the television and take a DEEP look...maybe with the "mute" on.

Always remember: Freedom of; thought is Golden.

I havent read anything like this anywhere. If our thoughts seem too much alike its just a coincidence, and Im sure other people have considered this possibility at one time or another. From reading about scientists stating there is a very likely possibility of other dimensions, I came up with the idea of our minds being in a separate dimension then our bodies. I enjoy conversations on subjects such as these (especially while high) and give them a lot of thought. Also, the physics of our conscious thought process has always fascinated me. How can a nonphysical thought have a place in a completely physical universe? The question forever remains.

Well... then you re-discovered by yourself some very ancient teachings... in occult, we learn that the universe is composed of "planes". They are not planes in the usual (or mathematical) sense of the world. They are more like the layers of color in a coloured picture... like... a coloured picture can be separated in a layer of reds, a layer of greens and a layer of blues. The sum of this 3 layers give the complete coloured picture. This is the process used to transmit images in the TVS, DVDs, and etc.
So, the universe is formed of (traditionally) seven planes, and four of them are accessible to us humans.
There is the physical plane, where the physical matter exists, the "astral plane", where the emotions exist, the "mental plane", where the thoughts exist, and the "buddhic plane", where deepest things, like mystical insights, exist. The other three planes are beyond the normal human consciousness.

Thanks alot for the link, I'll check it out as soon as I get the chance. The idea of separate planes of existence combining to form the universe we inhabit is quite interesting to me.

Sammer, i have similar beliefs in this area... here are a couple things to think about...

1. Are thoughts really non-physical objects? Science truly does not know "what thought is," there are only theories. One theory holds that thoughts/memories/etc are "stored" in the actually electrical charges of the mind. I'm not qualified/capable to explain it but I had professor with a PhD in neuroscience describe it to me before. The point is that would make our minds like radios and our thoughts like radio waves (per se), all very much so real in the physical dimensions of the world, though invisible to the eye. We could not see the thoughts if we cut a mind open the same as you cannot see "the people talking inside of your radio" if you break it open.

2. Be careful in your logic which I'll quote here from your original post:

We do not live in a 3D (3 dimensional) universe. We at least know there are 4 dimensions we are bound to: height, length, width, and time. Try to have your body defy that 4th dimension of time! :)

String Theory is a popular physics theory that describes the existence of our reality has having more like 11 dimensions, with only 3 being visible to the naked eye, leaving up to 8 that we just plain cannot see, but are absolutely bound to it through its interwoven connection in the fabric of existence, the dimensions of reality.

Thoughts very well may not exist in a visible dimension or even a "physical" dimension but that does not mean that the dimension they exist in is separate from the dimension of our brain tissue and brain waves in any actual way.
