HELP PLEASE

HI PPL , i need to know do i need a timer and a light controller for a 250w sodium light to work, it myt b a stupid question but ive just ordered my first sodium ever, ive got the ballast and reflector i just need to know do i need a timer and light controller.

Or ye im going to be turning the light on and off myself thats y i need to know if i need a timer to turn these things on or off(to get them working).

BTW im a very inexperienced beginner when it comes to lighting as ive been using cfls, so dont laff at the question plz. and reply thanks.

Keeron it goes without saying if you want your to turn on and off at a specific time, you will need a timer, and not a shitty one, mine can take 3 Kilowatts and are digital and cost about £12 at a hydroponics shop.;)

I know that a lot of these cheapo timers say they can be used for 800 watts or some such number. And they will do it for a short period of time. The contacts in them are not that good and burn up fast. IMO I believe in using the cheap timer to power the coil of a contactor or relay. That way the only load on it is a minimal load of the coil of the contactor.

Yes i had cheapo timers at first soon i found out they where no good.
So i went for the ones that could handle 3K, its better to get the ones that can handle more power than you need so they can cope with the surge of power when the transformers kick in. ;)
