Wesley Snipes Sentenced to Three Years in Jail
The Blade star, 45, was sentenced Thursday to three years behind bars as his punishment for failing to file his tax returns, U.S. District Judge William Terrell Hodges announced in an Ocala, Fla., courtroom.
The actor sat stone-faced â?? and some people in the courtroom gasped â?? when the sentence was read. "I'm very sorry for my mistakes and errors. I apologize to my family, the court and the community," Snipes said as his wife looked on. "I've asked the court to show me mercy and the opportunity to make things right."
In February, a federal jury convicted Snipes of three counts of failing to file a tax return (from 1999 through 2001). Thursday he received 12 months for each count. Prosecutors say the actor owes a total of $41 million in taxes, of which he paid $5 at the sentencing.

I don't want to sound mean or uncaring cause being locked up sucks, but at least this means we've seen the end of the Blade movies.
The first one was pretty good the second alright, but then it was just rediculous.

I remember watching the video of the ex-irs agents who were fired because they were trying to find the amendment that made our income taxable to be constitutional...upon not finding anything and questioning it, they were fired...Several of those people haven't filed one since...
I think I may just have to try and work for the IRS so I can ask some questions and not pay taxes the rest of my life...Or until a president with the balls to stand up and get rid of the IRS is elected.

Wow... I thought we didn't have debtors' prisons any more.
But the arrogance of the wealthy to pull that shit is beyond me. If he had ethical reasons not to want pay taxes (for example, anti-war sentiment), he should have stood like a man and made that public. That would have been courage. But I always think of the statement, "I'm not a Doctor; I just play one on TV" in cases like that... he plays parts in movies of courageous characters, but in real life, I guess he's just not up to it huh?
If it was simply laziness or greed, that's a different story altogether.

I failed to file my taxes for three years running some time ago.....finally filed and got it all straight ($12,000) later. I didn't realize I could have faced such harsh penalties for it though, I was just being lazy and was horribly disorganized back then. I wonder how many other folks are guilty of this and if he is being targeted for being a relatively wealthy 'high profile' individual. Glad I'm not famous!

Maybe he doesn't want 40+% of his income going to the bullshit the government does? Remember he gets taxed the fuck out of because he makes hella money.

As previously noted. He's a celebrity, and whether or not celebrities' opinions matter more than yours or mine, the fact remains that he is in the public eye and therefore he is in a position to actually DO something about it.
