I moved this to 'basic'.
Given what I saw at HD this past weekend, my choice for a HD soil mix would be:
One 40# bag 'BOVUNG' brand composted manure and humus. This is similar to, but significantly 'hotter' than, the Agway version that I prefer.
Two 6qt bags perlite
One large-size bag Miracle Grow Organic Choice
Mix well. Do not use for plants with fewer than 5 mature nodes! It's going to be way too nut-y for seedlings. Go for 'seedling starting mix' or 'promix' or even jiffy pellets for that.
thankz bunches of oats' SA: seedlings' require a low nute soil to start in then huh? & also when you use the term "hotter" im assuming your refering too nutes but please do correct me if im wrong, also whats best at agway, im close to one of those too!:hippy:
you are correct........and replace the words " LOW nute soil" to " NO nute soil". you will have less problems later onQuote:

They also carry my FAVORITE nute-free seedling mix called Farfards Seedling Mix. It's cheap too. For nutes, try and find a hydro shop that stocks canna specific ferts, but Agways have the Neptunes Harvest and Epsoma organic lines if you get down with the hippe plant food :D. Farmer co-ops are the BEST! Yay!
ohhh so i ended up finding mg seedling mix or whateve and humus and manure by scotts and mg perlite. better off returning? Also has anyone used these products & if so any review?

Any recommendations for replacement products of better quality?
with all due respect stinky i believe that is way too hot a mix...at least for little plants...i tried this with my tomato plants and the seedling crystalized and died...with no ferts...and more mature plants had nute burn. even 1/3 compost/mature mix is probably too high....Quote:
