Grow room setup, sound good? Comments welcome
Still working on setting up my growroom. Plan to use a 5' x 5' (actually 4.9') secret jardin dr150 grow tent as my flowering room. Going to use two 600w hps with ac reflectors and 6" 306 cfm exhaust fans for each. My vegetative space will be a 4' by 4' area(open atm plan to build a simple pvc/panda film tent to use light as efficiently as possible). Plan to run a 600w MH here. Mothers(will have 3-4) will be growing right next to the vegetative room, and will be covered by a 250w mh system so there will be some overlap on the 600 and 250s. Also have a 6' by 3' closet set up with 4' flouros already, which I can use for anything(storing males for pollen, isolating hermys, growing clones a bit if vegetative room isnt empty). Have three or four large oscilating fans to support air movement in the grow room. Everything sound good? Any advice or things I should try to change before I start setting everything up? Also have a few questions.
1. Is a 600w mh sufficient to cover a 4' by 4' area of vegging plants(probably be 20-25 at a time, no larger then 18" tall.
2. Is it worth paying extra for a 18" carbon filter over a 12", or would the 18" restrict air flow too much? Also anyone have experiance with the foothill filters they sell on ebay? Seem really reasonably priced.
3. Going to be using a bubble cloner. I know I need small amount of light for clones, but what light would you guys suggest for 30ish clones? 23w(or so) cfl sound about right?
Thanks for all the help! Would be lost without this site.

One more thing, debating on where to run my exhaust ducts. I could run them down the central air vents already installed in the room, Would there be any problems with doing this? The central air is rarely used, and wouldnt ever be on at the same time as the fans.

1. yes, a 600-watter will be enough for a 4'x4' vegging area (37.5 watts per square foot) ... try for 50 watts per square foot when flowering ...
2. are you talking length, or diameter ? ... the extra length would restrict a bit more, probably not significantly ... if you're talking diameter, the larger will definitely offer less restriction ...
3. my best cloning results involved darkness the first 48 hours, and low light the next couple days, then full brightness ... a 23-watt should be OK for the first few days, but tha's about it ...
4. exhausting into your home's ductwork, will distribute the odor throughout the house ... yeah, I know it's filtered, but a non-smoker will still smell it after awhile, as it builds up in the ductwork ... vent it outside the house, I think you'll be happier ...

I'll be throwing the clones under four foot flouros for a bit when they are ready, was just wondering what light is best when your still rooting, stinky was saying in another thread too much light and they'll grow shoots not roots.
I'll probably be venting out of a window then. We dont have alot of visiters but dont want the ups man or whoever to smell anything funny. Whats the best way to mount 6" ducting to a window(so its not just hanging out and obvious).? I was thinking just a piece of plywood for a jam, then cut some 6" holes with a key hole saw for the vents. Any better ideas?
Also how do you guys mount your fans? Would it be better to attach it right to the ceiling, or hang it from some bungees.

I grew for a long time, using only 48" fluoro tubes ... different from CFLs, they need to be kept to only about one inch above the plant ... on the tubes, the lumens fall off rapidly with distance ... your idea of a 6" hole cut into plywood, paneling, sheetmetal, etc. will work fine ... here's my roof-vent outlet, using a trick Plexiglass panel that lets me exhaust, and still get some light into the trailer (Plexi compliments of xcrispi ) ... :wtf: was gonna post up a pic of it, and I dont see the 'add attachments button' ... :wtf:

The flouros would only be used for a week at most(depends on if the vegetative room is empty yet), and thrown under the MH. Started germinating about a week and a half ago, and have 12 seedlings going so far, half are about a week old and the other half just sprouted yesterday(used peat pellets for he first set and ended up killing quite a few of the seeds, didint squeeze out the excess water before putting the seeds in, so they stayed way to moist). Planted the second set strait into some fox farms light warrior, and 5/9 have sprouted within 48s, love this stuff. Went out and bought some ocean forest for when i transplant them into bigger pots, since i've heard so many good things about it. Hydro store near me is rediculously over priced though. 25 dollars for a 1.5 cubic foot bag IF you buy 5 or more. 28ish for one. Definitly have to stock up when i head into a bigger area.
