can we think into higher dimensions? We can conceive of these dimensions (if the theory is correct), so does that mean our thoughts could be higher dimensional?
I don't know if thoughts have any spatial dimensions at all. We can't measure them.

Yes, thoughts do have a three dimensional geometric component and when language based thinking is transcended one of the ways of carrying logical sequential thought is by a transforming series of geometric forms. I speculate that that would be a simple best fit abstract on the actual 3D activation of neurones, areas, and synapses associated with particular concepts or nouns, etc.
People who have not experienced more subtle forms of thought feel free to deny the existence of rational thought operating below the level of constructed verbal language. The trouble is that those kind of languages are so complex to decode that the brain has little attention and energy left for the thought itself, and is busy fighting with grammar and spelling and homonyms and homophones, and correspondences in other languages etc etc, instead of attending to the important matters, like what is reality, who am I, what is truth etc. The bigger the vocab, the greater the intelligence, the wider the experiences of life, the bigger the problem, as possibilities expand exponentially. All must be sorted, filtered, tested, and then selected in real time at the speed of normal thought. An astounding feat of biological programming in itself.
If you have ever experimented with meditation or LSD you may have had some of these experiences.
Leaving the level of ordered verbal thinking is a little scary as so many things like sense of self, personal history, description of the 'real' world and one's place in it and relations to it, body consciousness, and so forth are structured in language at the everyday level and fear is associated with 'losing all those things permanently. Of course one soon realizes that inner self is independent of body sense, real world perception data, personal history etc, and that one is essentially a thinking entity in a void. But I go too fast......
I would say, absolutely ... in whatever density they may take shape, I think thoughts have 'mass' ... particle science and physics indicate other dimensions than the 4 we find obvious (height, width, length, time), even the Bible describes the 'principalities and powers' that are unseen around us ... beyond the forms of matter ( solid, plasma, liquid, gas), (plasma was 'recently' added), perhaps someday scientists will include 'ideas') ... seems like the brain would have to form the 'idea', before it can form the 'picture' , and then, experience the physical 'object matter' ... but, that's just my thoughts, and I'm admittedly twisted (60's veteran :D)

Well... many mathematicians, mainly the ones who works with topology, can think about spaces with more than 3 spatial dimensions... even me, who am not a mathematician, can imagine (only imagine, not visualize) spaces with 4 spatial dimensions... and its trippy... i wonder how they can think about spaces with 5, 6, or more spatial dimensions... damn...
Anyway, the 3D restriction to our usual thought is only a learned one. Our mind can think about several spatial dimensions, not only 3, but in the everyday world we only use 3 dimensions, so our minds become conditioned to think only in 3d, but it does not mean we can not think in greater dimensions... we only lack the practice of doing it. Also, as the OP mentioned, some psychedelics or meditation can allow some people to visualize higher dimensional spaces.

Well... in occult teachings we learn that the world is composed of "planes", so there is the physical plane (the one we are aware of), the etheric plane, the astral plane, the mental plane, the buddhic plane, and some more.Quote:

Based only on the evidence presented in the original post, I would have to say "no". We can imagine higher dimensions in mathematical terms because math has that wonderful application to everything physically or theoretically possible (in logical terms). Nobody has actually been able to visually concieve of a higher dimension (well, excluding certain uncertain potentials in shamanism), only use math to represent it in a 3-dimentional-and-down plane where it is percievable to us.

I believe that our bodies our on a separate plane of existence than our minds. I do not believe that our thoughts have a physical existence in our universe, I think they must exist in a dimension of their own. Our brain serves as a connector between the separate immaterial thought-dimension and the completely physical universe we live in. :stoned:
